Jan. 09 Update Creator 2009

Decca2

Question

On installing the latest Jan 2009 Creator 2009 update, Windows and Roxio could no longer see CD/DVD drive. Recovered drive in Windows but not in Creator 2009. Recovered drive in Creator by installing 'pxengine4' but 'Copy and Convert' not burning! Managed to burn disk by using 'Create DVD-Advanced'.

System: Dell Optiplex 740, WinXP-pro SP3. CD/DVD (HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GSA-H73N. Firmware C106).

Any suggestions of how to get Copy and Convert to 'burn' again?

I say again:

It wasn't the update… 2 months after it came out and nobody else has seen this happen…

I am curious about the PXEngine? 2009 as well as Easy VHS to DVD installs with V 4.8.39a, 34. Is the one you installed an earlier version?

You should check in Hardware Manager to see if the drive is showing any errors.

May have to go the Clean Install route.

Apologies for delay in replying, I'm just back from holiday.

1. The Device Manager for the DVD shows "This device is working properly".

2. The PX Engine Version 4.12.19a, 36.

Rather than risk a clean install and the possibility of further problems, I'm happy to carry on with my workaround.

Many thanks for you comments Jim , they're much appreciated.

Looks like posts #4 and #5 are now in a continuous loop . . . Here's an attempt to INT it.

[1] What's the version of your current PX engine? Going to Help > About this software will show you the PX version numbers

[2] Does the drive show any errors in Windows Device Manager ? Your utilities disc only checks the drive, whereas the Device Manager checks the software drivers which are running it.

[3] A Clean Install may be required to return you software and driver setup to the factory condition.

OK if you have something you can use, good deal!

Just keep the Clean Install in mind should you run out of things to do some evening

I attributed the problem to the update because just before applying it I had used 'Copy and Convert' to burn a DVD without any problem. The lost drive occured immediatley after the update!

The PXE Engine suggestion came from one of the Roxio forums!

PS I used Dell's DRIVERS AND UTILITIES disk to confirm the DVD drive checked out OK.
