In Nero, there is possible to make something called a microDVD, thats a cd with a DVD stucture, is that possible with roxio software ? It´s nice to make a microdvd of some movie you don´t want to waste a DVD disc on.... Haven´t found the possibility anywhere in roxio´s programs.... cdanteek
No, it is called miniDVD and burned to a CD! Last time I tried this was in Version 7.5 or 8. I did it in Creator Classic, that applications been gutted so I'm not sure if one can anymore. cd

It was/is called DVD on CD, which is the miniDVD format, but it can only be played on software DVD players.
sknis
I'm interested in a couple of things. 1) How much video time are you planning to put on that hybrid? 2) What is your cost difference between a blank CD and a DVD? 3) Where do you plan to play this hybrid? Would your DVD player play the hybrid? Older versions of Toast could also do it but the recording was limited to 15 minutes. I don't know about the earlier versions of EMC. I do know that a SVCD is lower video quality and limited video time (20 minutes?). Again not many people use them an many DVDs won't play them (Check the owners manual.) Mollisen
Well, to clearify things: My question was: In Nero, I can make something called a minidvd, and that is that it burns full length movies (6-700mb avis, mpegs, or several smaller video files) so it fits on a cd with dvd structure. This is useful for music videos, instruction videos, tv episodes that you dont wat to waste a dvd on. The difference between one cd and a dvd is not that large, but as I burn out a lot of small movie files that I want to play in a standalone dvd player (and you can do that with neros minidvd without any problem) the difference in cost increases... The vcd and svcd has lower quality, doesn´t play everywhere and has its limitations in how mutch you can burn on them, while mini dvd is a dvd on a cd-disc. What is EMC and what is Toast ? EMC = Easy Media Creator, which is the Roxio PC software. Toast is for MAC computers.

EMC = Easy Media Creator Toast = Roxio program for Apple computers. Just wondering ( based on your reply) the quality (birate) of the video on CD? I'm going to bow out of this thread. I never heard of microDVD and I can't find anything about it on the Ahead Software pages. All standard DVD must have the standard structure and must be mpg2. I find it hard to believe that you can put a full length movie (2 hours) on a CD without resorting to a very high compression. I could see it if you were making a DivX video. Well, to clarify things Mollisen, your wrong....The files have to be in the DVD Video Format for Nero to make the miniDVD on CD! GPB is correct on the time too, 15-20 minutes of video for the DVD on CD. Below I've included pics of trying to add WMV, MPG, and AVI....If you have any other questions on miniDVD I would be happy to answer them. Could you be confused, maybe burning data to a CD and using a play all player like my Phillips, that will play a piece of toast with peanut butter on it? cd

Mollisen
Well, first of all, I have to apologize to all of you, I have checked. It´s not called microDVD, it´s called miniDVD, and I found all the info about the format here; http://www.afterdawn.com/glossary/terms/minidvd.cfm "miniDVD has two definitions, separate from each other: 1) In this meaning of miniDVD, it is not a real format, but a hack instead that uses standalone DVD players' abilities to play back regular CDs. Basically miniDVD is a regular CD that has the same structure as regular DVD-Video has. Most of the standalone DVD players can be fooled to think that the disc inserted is a regular DVD-Video disc and to play it. Biggest problem with miniDVDs is the fact that DVD movies tend to take appx. 4GBs of space and in CD you can just fit ~700MB of data -> one movie ends up taking 6 or more CDs. Therefor most of the people don't use miniDVDs, but use some other standalone DVD player-compliant formats instead, like VCDs, SVCDs or their varieties. 2) Also, more officially, miniDVD (also called as mini DVD, Mini DVD and MiniDVD) refers to a standard DVD disc which is otherwise identical to the normal DVD, but has smaller diameter of only 8cm." That means, I am looking for the first alternative ! I used to burn theese discs in nero, (as I said before, I am burning crappy quality movies on them like music videos, tv-series and shorter movieclips that alltogether is smaller then 4 gb) and It played fine in several standalone DVD:s that recognised the cd as a dvd disc ! Now I am wondering if there is some way to do this in any of the ahead programs ???

ggrussell
And as far as I know, there is no way to create that type of disc in Creator 2009. However MyDVD does support burning to the 8cm 1.4GB miniDVD disc.

Look at the above bolded text - you can get about 700 MB on a CD (actually less). I believe that equates to about 15 minutes or less. You would need 2-3 of them for a one hour TV program probably 2 of them for a 1/2 hour program. What you posted says 6 of them for a movie (probably more). Music videos - OK you can get a handful of them on a CD. Remember they will be crappy quality. Why keep them if you don't really want to watch them in any reasonable display. Keeping that in mind, it would be less expensive to use DVDs. You did not burn close to 4 GB to a CD - with Nero or any other known program. You made a mistake, now leave it at that. Burn DVD, VCD or SVCD or use a highly compressed format like DivX or XVid.
