Regular Glitches In Video

Glitch

Question

Hi,

I have a little problem - it occurs in Toast 10 as well as 9.

I've been trying to combine and burn a couple of DVD's that look to have come from a handycam at a concert. I have read them on hard disk and have a couple of VIDEO_TS folder. If I put them into "DVD-Video" pane and burn a DVD, it all works except there is a glitch about every 20 seconds in both audio & video. The best I can describe it is like a missing frame or so, or splice in an old fashioned film. I've tried different ways of importing into Toast, and have tried forcing re-encoding on and off - it doesn't make a difference.

If I drag them both into the VIDEO_TS COMPILATION pane and burn it that way, I don't get the problem.

Anyone seen it before, or have any ideas?

Thanks!

Those most likely are caused by timecode breaks created by the camcorder when it was recording the video. Instead of dragging the VIDEO_TS folder to the Video window, try using the Toast Media Browser to extract the videos from the VIDEO_TS. This is done by choosing DVD with the top button of the Media Browser. The Media Browser will see the DVD or will see the VIDEO_TS if it is on the desktop. Otherwise you need to use the little button to locate the VIDEO_TS folder. When something appears in the browser window double-click on it to see a list of all titles in the VIDEO_TS folder. Drag the ones you want to the Video window.

Toast can remove timecode breaks from some source videos but there are many it cannot do. If yours is one it cannot do then you need to use MPEG Streamclip to open the video from the VIDEO_TS folder, choose fix timecode breaks from the Edit menu and then choose Convert to MPEG from the File menu. Use that MPEG video in Toast.

I'll give it a go.
