Multiple Burn Issues

blake5298

Question

Ok, so I have been having numerous probs off and on for a long time...

1) This problem just started a few days ago. When trying to burn data discs or copy data discs roxio will nearly complete the task, then at the last second come up with an error message that says somethin like 'the file names don't match the originals, it is recommended that you check and try again.' Even tho it appears that the files have been written to the disc --that's if burning a new data dvd, if i'm trying to copy one, i get a message that the disc must be scratched or smudged and can't be read. Both of these messages are total crap!! I have been burning and copying data discs the same way for a very long time without probs, this dysfunction just started the other day.

2) I had such trouble burning DVD movies, that I just quit trying a while ago, but since i'm writing in about the current issue I just as well ask about this one... If I just want to do a straight burn with no chapters or any editing, the program had worked fine. It's when I would attempt to insert chapter markers and names for those chapters that I would run into troubles. Even before I could get to try to burn, just in the editing process, at some point roxio would just up and close and come up with some error message (i don't recall what it said, something about needing to close blah blah). Every time! Sometimes I'd work for a couple hours getting chapters just right, then close to finishing, boom the program closes itself.

Any one know about these probs? Your help is much appreciloved!

OK - first of all what is different on your computer from the last time you had a successful burn.

Again, what brand of media? It's possible you got a new batch and that's faulty (happens more times than you would think with certain brands). The problem with some well-known brabds is that they don't make the discs themselves - the work is all sub-contracted and usually to the lowest bidder ;)

I can't think of anything different per say... I am always DL torrents and I did experience a prob before after plugging my USB ipod connect in, but that was a prob of the drive not even showing up, in which I fixed that.

I have been using a new batch of dvd+r discs by Ridata, but had one or two successful burns on these before the prob started. Before that i was using philips dvd+r discs and they worked great. Upon your suggestion, I tried a couple Magnavox dvd-r discs and they both burned just fine! Thank you! So, my whole spindle of ridata dvd+rs might be bad??

Now, what about that other issue I was having with editing movies before burning... any advice on that one? That problem has nothing to do with discs because it occurs before the burn process.

Thank you for your help, very much appreciloved! :)

If you are downloading movies via torrents you very likely picked up a virus. Downloading movies from torrents is illegal and cannot be discussed here.

Calm down. Nothing official, I am a music archiver and DL unreleased material. I purchase official material!

Now, if any one can help with my problem... thanks guys!

Irrespective of the legality of it, what Walt said applies - a lot of torrent sources are highly suspect and you could easily have acquired something nasty in a download.

Do a full AV scan (with an updated database) and also a malware scan - it could surprise you what may be there

updated database is a regular update iof the AV files - my system updates daily

Roxio itself wouldn't have a virus - but you could have problems with the torrents - there are far too many 'fake' files plus ones that are deliberately infected on the P2P nets

Could downloading the current updates (10.1 or other) fix my movie editing issues? Why are the updates so large (MBs)?

EMC 10.1 isn't a 'true' update in the usual sense of the word where it patches files, but a complete replacement of 10.0. It only fixes one specific problem (which isn't quite the one you are having)

Thank you for the advise. I had Norton complete suite before and now use Mcafee from Comcast. I tried to see if the Mcafee program is good protection against all types of invaders, but had a hard time finding specs, namely malware removal. What do you mean by "updated database"?

So, you think roxio could give me trouble from viruses or the like? If I reinstall could it fix?

By the way the problem I was having with editing is from before I downloaded anything from the internet.
