legman
Greetings, I hope I posted this in the correct forum. I am looking for "simple and easy" software to replace Record Now ver 7.3. I have used this for years for data copy (I burn audio in Media Player) but I want to upgrade to something with some tech support in case I need it. I have reviewed the newer Roxio products but they all seem to have a lot options I do not need. Have I over looked something? Additionally, I do not want to spend a lot of money on this b/c I backup to another hard drive. Any suggestions? I appreciate your comments. Eddy Better to have more options than you need as opposed to not having enough or what you want I think. But, have you tried using "Creator Classic" in your newer Roxio programs ? I find that extremely good at burning data. Frank...
lynn98109
If you are just doing plain, simple data discs, WinXP's built-in burning will do the trick. If you want more than that, you might inquire at some neutral site such as afterdawn.com - remember, these boards ARE sponsored by Roxio, and the people who do the answering have bought and use Roxio products. Lynn Thanks, I was wanting input specifically for Roxio products. Staples has a couple of Roxio/Sonic programs; one of them is Easy CD/DVD Creator (I think that is the name). Does XP use Sonic DLA or is that from my Roxio program? Eddy Better to have more options than you need as opposed to not having enough or what you want I think. Do you have to buy the newer programs to get it, or do some of the "older" versions of software that Staples, Best Buy sell contain this program? Eddy <snip> Easy Media Creator has Creator Classic as one of its many applications. Easy CD/DVD Burning has a lot of limitations - it's a cut-down of Easy Media Creator 9, and was probably cut down with a meat-axe. Granted, most people who post, are not the ones for whom it works, but you might take a look at some of the posts in the Forum devoted to said program http://forums.support.roxio.com/index.php?showforum=144 Lynn Edit: oops - missed DLA - like all Packet-Writing programs (Sonic's DLA, Roxio's Drag-to-Disc, Nero's InCD, etc) it is a very UNRELIABLE means of data storage if you want to archive your data long-term. Use a Sessions-based program like Sonic's Data Disc, Roxio's Creator Classic, WinXP's built-in burning, etc.
Brendon
Thanks, I was wanting input specifically for Roxio products. Lyn doesn't have much personal experience with Roxio products, Eddy. Staples has a couple of Roxio/Sonic programs; one of them is Easy CD/DVD Creator (I think that is the name). I'd suggest that you check the full names and version numbers of the software on offer there, and ask here about them before you buy. The "current" versions of Roxio/Sonic software are all fairly complex and priced accordingly. The company has put out some cut-down versions, but in most cases key features of these have been disabled. Some shops are still selling old software that is out of its support time, and the whole thing can be quite bewildering. Even today's version will be "legacy" in a couple of years. Does XP use Sonic DLA or is that from my Roxio program? No, any version of Sonic DLA or Roxio Drag to Disc [or a mixture of the two] that you find in XP will have been installed by Roxio/Sonic software. Using DLA or D2D is best avoided unless you have a specific need and know all about their limitations. Cheers, Brendon
