wgrant Posted March 3, 2009 Report Share Posted March 3, 2009 Hello - I successfully installed ECDC 5 Platinum on my HP Pavilion dv2040us laptop running WinXP Home about a month ago. At that time I burned one music to make sure it was working properly. I recently went to burn another cd and was greeted with "there are no supported cd recorders available" message. The drive does work and is showing up under My Computer. I have applied all the available updates (5.3.5.10v). Does anyone know what could be causing this now? I do not have Nero installed. The highest 5.3.5v goes up to is the UJ-835, so I don't know how you managed to burn "one music" unless it was with Media Player rather than ECDC 5.3.5v No worries. We can play dirty, and do a sneaky registry edit to convince ECDC 5.3.5v that it has known your drive all its life We steal the entry for the UJ-535S. Here's how . . . -run regedit -find [ctrl-F] device210 You should see an entry for a CDWRITER IDE5232SO -press F3 to Find again. This time you should see an entry for the UJ-835S -double-click on device210, and an edit box should open with the value for that key highlighted in it. -carefully edit the value, substituting 850S for each of the two instances of 835S. If you muck up, Escape from the edit, and start it again. It's safe until you click ok. -with the edit done properly, click OK to finalize it and leave the editor. It's done. You might need to restart Windows to get the registry read afresh, but afterwards ECDC5 should think your drive is an old buddy. I changed both liked you said and rebooted and get the same message. Is there any other suggestions? Yes I burned one disc with it when I initially installed it. You can [and should] check your drive's ID by going into Windows Device Manager and clicking on the + sign to expand the DVD/CD-ROM drives entry, when you'll see the ID of each of your optical drives. Finally, all bets are off if you have updated Media Player past version 9, or Internet Explorer above version 6. The later versions of those programs break earlier versions of Easy Media Creator. I'm using Internet Explorer 6 and WMP 11 is installed but I really don't use it. It was installed when I first installed all the updates. Wyman Thanks Wyman, Looks like you've done everything exactly as requested, and I'm sure it would have worked but for Windows Media Player 11. I don't know if you can roll back the installation of WMP11 [hopefully others will interject here and say if and how it can be done] but that program is definitely inimical towards ECDC 5, and I don't believe the Creator suite will work properly with WMP 11 on the system. wgrant Posted March 4, 2009 Author Report Share Posted March 4, 2009 Hi Lynn and Brendon, Thank you both for all your help but uninstalling WMP 11 didn't help either. I'm gonna give up on this for now because I'm not interested in reformatting my drive just to see if it works. However I do have another question. Where can I download a trial version of Creator 2009 from? Also, out of the last few releases of ECDC, which one is more stable? Once again, I appreciate all the assistance you have given. P.S. If you're curious to know what I've been using for my burning needs, it's CD Burner XP and Ashampoo. I have iTunes installed also to listen to my music but don't use it for burning. Brendon Posted March 5, 2009 Report Share Posted March 5, 2009 Hi Wyman, Lyn doesn't run any of the last few releases of EMC. [5 was the last of ECDC ] As far as stability goes, I have found they're much the same once you manage to actually get a successful install. There are no trial versions of Creator 2009.
