S Video Versus Rca Jack

cornerstone-llc

Question

if i understand correctly i can use either the yellow/red/white rcs jacks to record video - or - i can use the s-video jack. additionally i suspect the video quality will be better.

has anyone used the s-video and what were the results compared to using the jacks.

is the s-video jack the only one used or is it used in combination with the yellow jack.

thank you in advance

The S-video jack only transfers the video, you still have to connect the red & white audio jacks. If you use the S-jack, you then don't use the yellow jack. You also have to change the settings on the screen from composite to S-jack

In my experience, S-Video transfer gives better video than composite. In composite video the various video signals are all blended together and have to be separated out at the receiver, whereas S-Video sends them on separate wires.

As Walt has pointed out, you still need to connect the audio cables for sound.
