cornerstone-llc Posted March 22, 2009 Report Share Posted March 22, 2009 in the end what id really like to do is be able to put anything a lcient gives onto dvd - weather its vhs tape , super 8 , album , cassette tape or whatever i want to be able to put it all onto dvd or cd. so here is the question.........how can a persone do this in a timely fashion. i mean come on - if someone comes to me with lets say 10 vhs tapes or movies that are lets say 1 hour each that would take me at the very very minumum 10 hours since each movie needs to be recorded in real time. so what happens if someone else comes to me with 5 tapes while im working on these 10 and someone else wants a couple of super 8 movies on dvd and someone else comes to me and gives me 100 albums they wnat on cd - all of this needs to be done in real time - how the heck am i going to do all of this - there are not enough hours in the day based on current methods - unless of course there is a different product and some special equipemnt i should acquire. i dont wnat to do this on a casual basis - id like to be aboe to comeercially reproduce rapidlly whatever clients give me - is that possible ??????????????? cornerstone Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Its primarily targeted for consumers, but I know people do use it in conjunction with their businesses. Also, if you include editing, menu creation and encoding, its longer than hour for hour. ggrussell Posted March 22, 2009 Report Share Posted March 22, 2009 Nothing in video is 'quick'. Usually takes me 5 to 6 hours for a one hour VHS tape. That includes capturing to digital file, editing, creating a DVD menu, burning, creating DVD label and printing plus designing the DVD case cover. You'' find the owner hard at work and a couple of techs. Each will have several A/V machines going at the same time. Look at prices to, for example transfer 50 ft of reel to reel tape to a DVD (no editing). There are no large profits, the $$ is being put back into the business to keep all those machines running. By the way, please take the time to spell check your posts, put in paragraphs, capital 'I", etc. Peaople will get tired of trying to decipher your posts and you will get no feedback other than "HuH"? The other thing (besides using capital letters to start sentences, a personal peeve of mine) is to realize that your time is valuable, and you have to charge accordingly. For a good job, on valuable material, people are usually willing to pay. When I transfer LPs to CD, I charge per minute of music, and then the customer chooses the level of effort I put into it. A straight transfer is much cheaper than a detailed listening where I manually hand-edit out the clicks and pops that the programs don't do. The higher end work is worth 3 times the straight transfer and a 40 minute LP transfer can get up around $60. Time-wise, I'm really not making that much either. Hope that helps!
