Trying to burn data disc using Toast 7 Titanium. Getting message that says "The drive reported an error: Sense Key = Medium Error Sense Code = 0x73, 0x03."

Any idea what this is and how to fix so I can burn DVD disc?

That typically indicates there is incompatibility between the specific media you are using and the drive. Find out if there is a firmware update for the drive, as that usually enables the drive to support more brands and speeds of media. Also, try a different brand of disc. Avoid Memorex, Sony and store-brand media. Place one of the DVDs in your drive and open Toast. Select Disc Info. In the media report that appears there is a link to a database at videohelp.com where users report their experience with different DVD media. I used to advise buying Made in Japan rather than Made in Taiwan media, but it now is nearly impossible to find Made in Japan discs except through mail order. If you mail order buy Taiyo Yuden DVD media.

You also can try burning to your media at a slower speed. When the Recorder Settings window opens in Toast, hold down the button that reads "Best" and choose a speed listed in bold face that is 4X or less. Maybe your drive will support burning to that media at the slower speed.

If the drive was provided with your MAC, you would check the Apple website for updates. If the drive was purchased separately, you would check the drive manufacturer's website. Ensure that you follow the update instructions exactly, as updating firmware incorrectly can damage the drive.

After much investigation, hardware test, and trying several brands of DVD-R, it looks like the issue was the brand of DVD's. Funny, I'd used one brand for several years and all of a sudden they aren't compatible anymore. Switched brands and all seems fine now.

maybe the production of that brand was moved to a different location and the quality of the media is not as good as before. It happened to some DVD media brands I personally use.

glad to hear it's working for you now
