Question

I am attempting to make a slideshow using photos that are on my hard drive. I started out by using Slideshow Assistant. After adding the photos, I previewed all of them by clicking "Preview". The photos are not full size (right sides are not shown) and they are shown in levels (looks like the photos were cut into five pieces and then pasted separately). But, if I preview each picture individually, they look like they should. Then, I clicked on "Edit in VideoWave". When I play the slideshow in VideoWave, the photos are still not full size and are shown in levels.

I've made many slideshows in the past and have them saved on my hard drive. My older slideshows had never had the above-mentioned problems. They looked like they are supposed to look. But when I opened some of them just to see what they look like, they were also distorted.

I'm really frustrated and don't know how to solve this problem. I'd appreciate some help.

Thank you.

Chris

Burn it – preferably to an RW disc and see how it comes out.

This will determine if it is display problem or are real problem.

Thank you for your reply, Jim. I did as you suggested. It came out beautifully with no problems. So what does this mean? Do I have a "display problem" or a "real problem"? What do I do?

First, thank you for your reply.

I've done everything that you've suggested. When I used VideoWave to build my project, I still got distorted images. Also, my video card drivers are up-to-date and display settings at 96 dpi. Is there anything else that I can do? Oh, I forgot to mention that I uninstalled and then reinstalled my Roxio program yesterday. But it also didn't do any good.

Try one more thing. I don't know if it will help, but maybe it will. Go to where you have stored your VideoWave production. It will have a .dmsm file extension. There will also be a file, with the same name, but it will have a .dat extension. Delete that file, reboot, open your production in VideoWave, and see if the preview is ok.

Also, I have to ask, even though you said you built your production in VideoWave. Did you start from scratch? If you opened your Assistant production, in VideoWave, nothing will change. You have to start from scratch.

That definitely points to a problem with the .dat file. Read this thread:

http://forums.support.roxio.com/index.php?...hotos+VideoWave

I read the thread and did as suggested. It didn't help. Then, I deleted the entire VideoWave production slideshow that I was making and its matching DAT. Then, I started all over in VideoWave to remake the production.

First, I added the photos. In the "Preview area", the photos are still distorted (right side is cut off and they look like five levels without a space between the levels). The thumbnails in the "Production Editor" seem to be fine. Also, the photos in the edit window look fine. It's just the "Preview area" photos that are messed up. Furthermore, as an experiment, I added a color panel and tried adding text to it. The text box does not line up in the middle of the panel.

Next, I saved the production and exited VW. I then went to my .dmsm folders. I deleted the DAT file for the production. Then I opened the production. The pictures are still distorted in the Preview area.

Sorry but it doesn't work that way…

You changed nothing in MyDVD. You cannot simply delete the dat file and make changes to the VW project file (dmsm) and think it will start new…

You have to start a new project in MyDVD in order for your changes in a VW project to take place. Alternately, you can delete the Menu button for that dmsm project and add the new one.

In any case the only thing left to do is the Clean Install.

It means it is a Display Problem

You have never listed your PC specs, now is the time… Include the driver version for your video card.

I don't understand what MyDVD has to do with the problems I'm having in making a slideshow production in VideoWave.

However, I did do the Clean Install exactly as instructed. But it didn't change the problems I'm having with the photos as I described previously.

I'm sorry to keep needing help with this problem. And I appreciate the time and suggestions you've given. However, if you want to stop trying to help me, I'll understand.

Thanks.

myDVD has nothing to do with your problem, I think Jim misread something in your post.

Have you cleared out your proxy files folder lately?

I did as you suggested. But it didn't change anything. And yes, I started from scratch in building my production in VideoWave. In fact, I tried it a couple of times. I even deleted the old files for the production that I'm presently trying to make (.dmsm and DAT).

Thank you for your reply. To tell you the truth, I don't even know what a proxy file folder is. Please enlighten me.

I just got through doing the Clean Install and it didn't work.

I know that this is probably going to be a stupid question--but where do I list my PC specs and what info should be included? Also, I think that my driver for my video card is "NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT" (Provider: NVIDIA; Date: 8/22/2008; Version: 7.15.11.7545).

Jim, I was looking at the production that I'm trying to make while in VideoWave. I've noticed that the photos in the Production Editor display and the Preview Area display are the ones that look distorted. However, if I go to an individual photo and right click it and go to "Edit" and "Photo...", the photos look great on the edit screen. I don't know if this info is helpful. But I decided to tell you anyway.

Thanks.

After two days of attempting to resolve this issue, I THINK I've got my problem fixed. While in VideoWave, I went to Tools, Options. In "Render using:", there are two choices--"Hardware" and "Software". I don't understand what these terms mean. But, I thought, "What the heck. I've got nothing to lose by changing the setting." Mine was set to "Software". So I set it to "Hardware". Well, it worked. My slideshow photos (.dmsm and .dmss) are like they should be.

I want to thank those of you, especially Bruce and Jim, who replied to my messages.

High fives to you!!!!! I am glad that you are good to go, now.

Usually, it is the opposite of what you did. Normally, if things aren't going right, switching to Software render fixes it. Go figure, that it was just the oppostite, in your case.

First, start building your project, in VideoWave, not the Assistant.

Also, make sure your video card drivers are up to date, and your display settings are at 96 dpi.
