Spin Doctor Won't Play Back Captured Audio

g3jedi

Question

When I capture audio and then try to play it back Spin Doctor plays between 2 and 4 seconds and then the play head jumps back to the beginning and starts to play again. If I drag the play head anywhere else in the file it jumps back to the beginning. I had this problem when I first installed Toast 10 but when I deleted an older version of toast and reinstalled 10 with the first update the problem disappeared for a couple of weeks. No it is happening again and it even happens with the second update. I have reinstalled everything, trashing the plist files and all other related Roxio files I could find. Still no fix. I don't see anything like this in the forums but I'm hoping to find some help, PLEASE. I forgot to mention that I played the files in Quicktime and they play just fine so the problem is not with the aiff files.

I have a G5 Quad with 5.5 gigs of RAM. I'm running OS 10.5.6.

One more with the exact same problem...

Problem is consistent in my G5 Quad, 12GB RAM and OS 10.5.7. with versions of Toast 10.0 (530)/CD Spin Doctor 6.0.1, Toast 10.0.1 (538)/CD Spin Doctor 6.0.1 and Toast 10.0.2 (539)/CD Spin Doctor 6.0.2, but inexistent in both my good old PowerBook 17" 1GHz 2GB RAM and in a iMac C2D also running 10.5.7 and latest version of Toast ...

Looks like there's a G5 / OS10.5 pattern...

Any log file we can look for to give you clues on the problem?

This probably should be brought to Roxio's attention. I suggest sending a private message to patatrox.

I started this thread back in April and I'm still having the same problem. I'm glad to see that I'm not alone but sad that others have the same frustration. I'm tired of having to use my old powerbook to do audio projects. I've followed all of the instructions given to me by Roxio support to no avail. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software about ten times. There IS a problem between Spindoctor and 10.5.7 and now 10.5.8. This many people cannot be imagining the problem. It is not mass hysteria. A little help please?

...this is exactly the problem I have with the new CD Spin Doctor 6.0.2.

The play head jumps back to the beginning everytime after a few seconds. I tried everything that is possible to solve the problem... :angry2: :angry2:

Anybody out there who has a solution????

& I'm also very familiar with CD Spin Doc. and Mac (I'm a Mac user for more than 15 years - but never had such a problem with software like this?!)...

greetings from germany

I'm sorry but this isn't happening for me so I don't have a way to troubleshoot it. What other audio applications do you have installed? Have you tried creating a new user account and running Spin Doctor from that account? Something is triggering this on your Mac but I don't know where to look.

hi digital guru - thanks for your reply! got no other audio applications installed any more on my mac _ and - yes I tried to get a solution with a new user account. "NO" chance it still don't work :angry2:

so I also don't have any idea where to look to. is it a bug in the programm and should i wait for the next update?? I'm running OS 10.5.7 on a PPC G5, Dual 2.3 GHz, 6.5 GB RAM. haven't got a "intel" mac _ could this be the problem?!

thanks & greetings j_bl

Just to be sure I just did a test with my G5 iMac running 10.5.7 and it is working fine for me at this time. Does it make any difference if you open an existing audio file? You say you've tried everything so that means you've trashed and reinstalled Spin Doctor as well as its plist file. Look in both your User and root Library preferences folders for the plist. Also, go ahead and trash the toast plist and prefs files and relaunch Toast. If your Mac isn't awake all night to automatically do this, run a utility like Macaroni to clean the system caches.

It's working okay for me. The only thing I can see that might relate to what you're experiencing is a Loop Playback command in the Controls menu. I have it unchecked. You also could trash the com.roxio.CDSpinDoctor6.plist file in your Preferences folder and relaunch Spin Doctor to see if that helps.

I already thought of that. I've been using Toast since version 5 and I am very familiar with it and with Spin Doctor. I use it almost every day. This is so frustrating not being able to figure it out. I usually can. I think there is a software conflict of some kind. I'll be back with a list if installed applications shortly. And by the way, I live up the I-5 a ways from you in Canby.

I very much doubt it's a 10.5.7 problem. However, my suspicion is there is something wrong in your Mac's system that is triggering this behavior by Spin Doctor. If you have Disk Warrior this is a good time to run it.

Another thing to try that does no harm is download and apply the 10.5.7 combined system update on top of your existing 10.5.7 system. Doing this can sometimes repair odd problems.

It may be a reinstall of your OS will fix the issue but I'm just making a wild stab at a guess.
