Question

I have a similar problem occurring in VideoWave. When first dropping and dragging images into the Storyline of a production, the images are okay. Once I start moving the images, say to another location in the production, or after adding text and transitions, such as "slow dissolve" and then saving the production, and then opening the production later to work on it, the images become progressively more distorted. I sent in a request to Roxio Tech Support. They responded by suggesting driver updating (I have the latest drivers for my videocard), going into 'msconfig', click on "Startup", write down all the items with a check mark, and then click on 'disable all', which I did. Restarted the computer. Also went to Windows Update to determine if there were any DirectX updates. None shown for my computer. This was another suggestion. Thus far the problem continues. And as you experienced, the images are not distorted when clicked on to put them into the Preview window. They are also clear when playing the production in VideoWave as a preview of the slide production. Thus far the problem only appears in VideoWave in the Storyline, not in the final product. Very disconcerting. It also slows up reviewing the images when in the processing of either adding or removing images. Have to first click on an image to put it up into the Preview window because it gets to be impossible to see what the image consists of in Storyline. Sent in an update to Tech Service telling them that what they suggested has not resolved the problem. Waiting for a reply. The other two suggestions offered up by two people on the forum did not help either.

Thought you might be interested in the experience I've had with Roxio customer care. It is now the fourth e-mail I've received offering a number of different solutions to the problem of distorted images in the Storyline of VideoWave. They suggested that I update to the latest version of Direct X. I had already. Update video drivers. Was done when a new video card was installed. Disable startup items. Did this. Try adjusting the video hardware acceleration. Was set to full. Check monitor resolution. Okay. Go into Run and then type in dxdiag to open up this window. Click on "Save All Information" and save the file to the desktop with the current webticket number and then attach the file to the current webticket. Did this. This file shows my computer's profile and info about drivers, etc. Received back from customer care that nothing looked strange, using their words. Included in this last e-mail were more suggestions. Retstart computer in safe mode; show hidden files; then clean temporary files from computer; defragment the harddrive and reboot computer in normal mode. Computer indicated that hard drive does not require defragmenting. Finally, try rebuilding a slideshow to see what happens. I have yet to do this. Will let you know if any of this solves the problem.

I have decided to no longer allow myself to be used for experimental purposes by Roxio. I'm just going to live with the problem if the problem continues. I do not believe that it is a display problem as suggested by another person on this forum. I am leaning more towards a software glitch. In my case, the images become more distorted with each working session of the slideshow. That is, drag and drop images to Storyline, save the production. Open the Production, continue work on slideshow such as move images to different locations, delete some images and add others. Save the Production. Open the Production to add transitions and a music track. Save the production. With each save and open, the images become ever more distorted. All of this was explained to Roxio customer care. Evidently it was of no guide to them in coming up with a solution.

Thank you for your reply. I understand the frustration since I'm going through it. But, I'm going to work a little longer on solving this problem with the help of the forum if they don't give up on me.

I have done all of the things suggested by the individuals in this forum. Cleared proxy files, deleted dat files, but thus far none of these suggestions have helped me either. I did look at the thread that was previously posted. However, what it indicates did not solve the problem. I just competed a short slideshow for experimental purposes. Added some text to a few images and added a slow dissolve transition. After doing all this in one sitting, the images remained clear in the Storyline. Saved the production. Opened it and saved it again. I performed the saving and opening operation five times. After each save and open the images became distorted. I then deleted the accompanying dat file and cleared the proxy file. Neither of these operations solved the distorted image problem. Sorry, but this is something more complicated. Evidently, neither do the techs at Roxio customer service know what to do about resolving the issue.

I did not remember seeing your system specs, in your signature, before now. My bad. Had I seen them, I would have told you that your computer is underpowered for video work.

Your video card should be good enough, even though it is old technology. I don't know what else to say. You have tried many cures, but it looks like the software probably isn't going to work for you. :(

Split off from Hiker Girl's Topic – it was getting too un-wielding and hard to follow. Likewise your symptoms while 'similar' are pretty far apart…

Since you are unwilling to experiment and not offering anything, I don't see any direction this Topic is taking???

It was suggested that a new thread be started on this subject. In a different thread, it was suggested that my system is underpowered for video work. It may not be the best at this kind of work, but it does work. It's odd, however, that within the correspondence I've had with Roxio techs they have not as yet indicated that this is the problem to my image distortion. Nor did the person I spoke to prior to purchasing Creator 2009 indicate that my system was insufficient.

On the other issue of being unwilling to experiment. Well, it's not that I am unwilling. It's just that I believed the Roxio techs should be more competent in the workings of their software. As an example, I experienced a problem with my Norton Security software. I contacted Norton by e-mail, explained the problem. The next day I received a response telling me how to correct the problem. I made the changes, problem solved. It wasn't try this, or try that. I can say the same about Nvidia. In this instance I spoke to a tech person by phone. Within 10 minutes of discussion I had my answer. The discussion was followed up by an e-mail describing exactly what I should do. Problem solved.

My latest effort at creating a slideshow did not result in distorted Storyline images. That's because it was essentially completed in just one save and reopen and save. I have one item to add, a music track, which should indicate after reopening if the images have become distorted. I'll believe that the alleged inadequacy of my system is the fault of distorted images only after someone can explain why.

In any event, this forum is very helpful to obviously very many people, and the efforts of those that contribute their input is very much appreciated. Thanks to all.

That definitely points to a problem with the .dat file. Read this thread:
