Popcorn 3 Movies Don't Fill Up My Hdtv Screen

PatrickNJ

Question

When I encode movies on Popcorn 3 from de-cripted movie folders (from MacTheRipper), I get an .m4v movie file to play from my iTunes and stream onto my HDTV using Apple TV.

When I watch the movie on my HDTV, the aspect ratio on the screen does not fill up the horizontal frame completely.

Is there a setting I am missing?

I select save movie for Apple TV using the Automatic setting in Popcorn 3.

I really would like the movie to fill up the Horizontal space completely (see the photo link below).

Any help and/or tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Patrick

My guess is that you are doing nothing wrong. I suspect that Popcorn is a buggy piece of cr*p that doesn't do much of anything correctly. That's why there isn't any real support for this product.

Feeling a bit grouchy today? The protocol for participating in help forums is to either explain something you need help with or to offer some tips that may solve a problem. Courteous ranting can be part of the post but not the entire content. You'll probably slap me around for calling you out on this. Oh well.

This did get me to look into the issue from the previous posts. I think if the user enters the custom settings window when AppleTV is selected, then choose Custom next to Image Size and then changes 640 to 720 that the final video may fill out more of the TV screen's width. Certainly worth testing.

I am having the exact same result/problem. My source is a DVD image directly into popcorn. When I encode it in popcorn using the appleTv automatic settings I get an image that looks exactly like the one you posted.

So far, I haven't found anything that Popcorn does correctly or as expected. If I rip a Video_TS folder for the iPhone with Handbrake or with MacTheRipper, it just works. I still have not found a setting within Popcorn that creates a proper mp4 without being letter boxed. This program is poorly supported, poorly documented and poorly written. Has anyone been able to make this work correctly?
