Video Copy And Convert Dvd-video

gbtman2

Question

I run Windows Vista Ultimate x64 on an AMD Athlon 64 CPU. I have another system that has an Athlon 64 x2 CPU, but I've not tried that system. I want to use Roxio to convert Media Center DVR-MS format files to MPEG. The convert feature appears to process the files fine, but the resulting MPEG only shows the movie thumbnail image for the video, and plays the audio stream back. It doesn't matter what video convert format I choose. If I choose DVD, it won't work at all. I would have though that by this time, sorry Sonic (don't like Sonic, never have, and I think they've done more harm to the Roxio product line than good) would have built-in support for Vista x64 versions. Is tis a compatibility issue? I've not seen anyone else report this issue.

Well, I thought all was well. It ain't. I'm getting a error with a file (I think it's) "thunk16.xxx is a 16-bit app and won't run und x64 opsys" when using drop-n-convert; and Copy & Convert DVD-Video won't convert my MCE files either. This is my main purppse for my using the software. I can convert these files under Nero, but I HATE NERO!!! I do like the Nero Express module. Anyway, I converted a 2 hr. MCE movie on my other system using Vista x64, AMD Athlon 64 CPU, but Drop & Convert wouldn't work. On this x2 AMD system, when I initially tested it, both DID work (on smaller files)! Now neither will work. I'm pissed! And so far, no help, suggestions or comments from all yawl users! I guess everyone else is having more important issues with the program.

If anyone is interested, I found that by using the Drag And Drop Convert module, I was able to convert my DVR-MS files to MPEGs. I had not noticed this option prior. I'd like to know why the Copy And Convert DVD-Video module does not work (as it fails with other formats as well). Bottom line for me, as long as I can get the job done one way or another without hassle, I'm so happy.

I've rarely subscribed to/replied on a forum. I do read them, but scantly ever join. I did in this case. Consequently, my post don't seem to be showing up, probably because I'm not posting wherever I'm supposed to post. But I've replied to my reply and it appears it only shows up when I pull up the post to view it instead of it being shown in the thread. Anyway, I discovered that after installing Roxio on my 2nd PC which has a different hardware configuration, Roxio's Copy & Convert DVD-Video worked perfectly. So-o-o-o-o, as it appears my problem was either related to the hardware configuration or it may have been software related--the installs were not equally clean. Nothing beats a clean install to eliminate the possibility of some odd-ball configuration/compatibility issue.
