Burning Help For Newbie

skbaja

Question

Hello,

Can someone help me with a DVD burning issue?

I have a movie file (.avi) that I can play on my computer by double clicking it (so I know it works). I dragged this file to the DVD section on Toast 10, and clicked burn.

It went through the burning process, and everything looked like it went well. The DVD (DVD-R) would not play on my DVD player, I got a message "wrong format".

Can anyone tell me if I did something wrong? or do I have to do special settings to make it work on a DVD player.

Thank you so much,

Sharona

[Looks like you were right. I was dragging the file to the data video screen. I have now moved it to the dvd box and am in the process of burning it again. Much bigger file. I am suspecting it is going to work now. Yea!! I will let you know

Thanks so much

Thanks for the above, I was also looking for advice as I could not get my AVI files to burn to my new iMac. I am new to both the Mac platform and also Toast, so I guess I will be on here a lot as I have a few problems.

I now have one less after downloading the Perion file :)

Thanks

I believe you burned this video using the Data window in Toast. There are five icons across the top of the Toast window. From left to right they are Data, Audio, Video, Copy and Convert. Click the Video icon to enter the Video window. Choose DVD-video as the format and drag in the AVI video file. See Toast Help about customizing your DVD menu.

Because this is an AVI source you may also need to download and install Perian from www.perian.org . Without it you may end up with a DVD that has no audio.

When you are ready to burn the DVD click the red button. There will be a lengthy encoding process because the video needs to be converted from its current format to the MPEG-2 format used by video DVD players.

Thank you SO much for your reply.

I did burn it from the DVD-video window. It was a lenghy process, and the process bar showed the progress. when I double click the Avi file, the movie plays with sound.

Maybe I will try again and see what happens.

Thanks
