Easy Vhs To Dvd

Mistagee

Question

I've installed the software according to the instructions, several times I might add. I've downloaded the video capture drivers from Roxio. I get all the way up to inserting the VHS tape, watching the movie come up in the small screen with audio but the "capture" button is greyed out. The video capture is plugged into the back of the computer as it should be. Where do I go from here? I'm lost!

What does it say next to the word Status: on the left?

Is your Save To: folder pointing to a location that's read-only, or otherwise restricted? (maybe it's unable to write/create at that location)

I doubt very seriously if that's the case, but if it is just bring up that folder location and change the attributes to Archive. Hard to believe that the OP is getting the video and audio in the preview screen (which would indicate that the signal is coming through O.K. and the USB capture device drivers seem to be doing their job. Have you tried using just the USB 2.0 drivers that came with the program installation, rather than using the downloaded driver ??

I also get the 'No Signal' status. I can hear sound and see picture - but the picture is black & white and only flickers with colour every 1 or 2 seconds.

Mm, just tried another DVD and get a 'Signal Protected' message. I guess that means it's got copy protection.

Ah, tried a third DVD and the colour is OK and it will let me capture this one !!

Any ideas with the 'No Signal' DVD ?

I have no idea what your post is about

Are you trying to capture from a DVD? This forum is about using the Roxio USB capture device to capture from VHS tapes

My post is basically about capturing video. You are correct it was from DVD rather than VHS, but I was just trying to prove the concept that I could capture video as I'd only just installed the software. To me there is no differnce whether the source is DVD or VHS - I got the impression the software would cope with both.

As it happens, the reason I purchased the product is to capture VHS. It's just at the moment I don't have a cable long enough to reach the VHS player as it's 14 meters away from the PC !! So the DVD was a quick test.

I'm also looking forward to trying out the tape/LP capture process and think it's great that this product provides that capability without having the expense of buying a USB turntabe.

You should have started your own Topic rather than butting into an existing one with a different set of conditions...

In any case you may have already answered yoru own question. You have to keep your cables as short as possible to prevernt line loss which falls below the Signal threshold...

That is probably the problem although a video tape where the picture goes in and out is an indication of MacroVision on the tape. That is a form of copy protection.

Yes it will capture from a DVD Player, I often use one for testing.

I doubt very seriously if that's the case [...]

I'd very much like to hear what Mistagee has to say on it. My response was for gathering more information, not proposing a solution. As Sherlock Holmes put it, "When you have eliminated all which is impossible, then whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth."

Also a good question; the original CD should have already supplied the correct drivers. Let's see what he has to say.
