You will need to "cut out" the footage you want to remove, which can be done by using the "split" button.

The split button, just above the timeline, looks something like this: <|>

  1. Move the play-head (vertical line) to the first frame of the part you want to remove; click on the timeline, a dashed-line box appears, then click Split.
  2. Now move the play head to the last frame of the part you want removed; click on the timeline and click Split again.
  3. The two splits now mark the beginning and end of the unwanted scene. Click on the timeline in-between the 'splits' (a dashed-line box appears around just that scene) and press the Del key.

You will see that the scene is now removed, the playback jumps directly to the next scene. The footage is still around, in the original capture reel, but the timeline in the production will now skip it. When you have a 'split' in the timeline, you can add transition effects to make the scene-change more pleasant.

If, for some reason, you wish to include that footage once again, you will have to add the capture-reel again and use Trim to isolate that scene. It's not unusual to re-use the same capture-reel many times in a complex production.

Best of luck!

 thank you very much for your reply and very informative instruction. wish you all the best

Did either of you get Runtime errors when trying to Edit and Existing Production? I can't get past the dialog box to get to the Edit features. Help! I click a radio button to "Edit Existing" and get Runtime errors.
