timson1
also, i'm using Memorex discs (8X, 8.5 GB, 240 min) as my media. and when i hit Burn in MyDVD, on the next window i have the box marked burn to disk checked with my proper DVD RW burning drive selected. ALWAYS use High Quality (HQ), and for a project as long as yours, uncheck the Burn to disc option, and select the burn to Folder Set option. Give the set a name and select a new folder, in whatever destination that you want, on your hard drive, and have the program encode your video. Once the encoding in done, close MyDVD, open Video Copy And Convert, browse to the Video_TS folder, in the folder set you made, and burn it to your DL DVD. Oh, and dump the Memorex, and get Verbatim DL media.
timson1
wow, thanks for the great advice!! also, should i use the .WMV or .AVI? does one format make a difference over the other?

IMHO, .WMV is junk video. .AVI is lossless video, captured from your video camera. It is as good as it gets, for Standard Definition video capture. timson1
alright, so i followed your steps and i got the project to encode into a separate folder on my PC. now, when i open and try to burn the VIDEO_TS project in Video Copy and Convert i'm getting an error during the burning it gets to Phase 2 of 2 and gives me this message: "Cannot write medium. Incompatible format - illegal request." Sense Key = 0x05 ASC = 0x30 ASCQ = 0x05 ULONG: Error Number = 15300501 STRING: Error String = Cannot write medium. Incompatible format - illegal request. what does this error mean?? I selected Size: DVD+R DL so i don't understand the incompatible format error? I selected Size: DVD+R DL so i don't understand the incompatible format error? Those messages look more like a hardware error from the drive than the program complaining about something. Did you get something other than the Memorex discs? Or is this error with the "other" (possibly Verbatim) discs? In either case, I think the next thing would be to try a different brand of disc than you currently tried. (And if you didn't try the Memorex disc, it's worth tossing one in and seeing what happens, but anecdotal evidence puts Memorex discs near the bottom of the quality heap.) You should check to see if there is a firmware update for your burner and see if that helps. The only Dual Layer media I use is Verbatim DVD+R DL media.... If it still doesn't work come back and tell us. cd
Question
timson1
so i've been trying to burn my video for the past few days and i keep getting the same error message which is:
I have my video in .WMV and .AVI formats but either format i use still gives me that same error message.
here is exactly what i am doing/using:
+I start MyDVD
+then i start a new DVD project (no menu)
+i add my video footage to be burned (again, .WMV or .AVI format)
+since the project is 140 minutes long i'm using a DVD+R-DL
+i select disc size: 8.5 GB
+i also select Fit to Disc
+then i hit burn and the project encodes
once the project is done encoding i get that error message everytime.
what am i doing wrong?
I have more than enough free space on my hard drive and my processors can MORE than handle this task.
my disk drive is _NEC DVD+RW ND-6500A
any suggestions? I'm beyond frustrated and i've never burned a dvd before so i'm pretty lost at this point.
thanks
