Combining And Editing Quicktime (.mov) Files

Heyward

Question

I'm a novice using Easy Media Creator 10 Suite Version: 1.0.044 ("EMC 10"). I have a Panasonic DMC-TZ5 digital camera that I have been using to shoot short videos (generally less than 3-5 minutes). The camera outputs the videos in .mov (Quicktime) format. I'm trying to figure out the best way (if there is a way) in EMC 10 to combine multiple videos into one video with some limited editing (e.g., scene transitions). So far, I am not having much luck. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Have you been able to get the mov files from the camera to your PC?

If yes, then launch Videowave and select the add option. Then navigate to the folder of the movies and select them.

Lets see if you get that far

Many thanks. I've been able to combine the two files. What do you recommend as the output format? MPC 10 does not seem to be able to output to .mov. I selected MPEG-2 for DVD, best quality, but I'm wondering if there is a different format I could use that would look better and/or take up less space.

Depends on what you want to use the output video file for. what are you planning to use it for?

You can't output a file that will "look better" than your source files. If they are low resolution or highly compressed, they can't be made any better even when using a higher resolution less compressed output format.

Using a format that results in smaller files will also reduce the quality of the video. You can't have "look better" and "smaller size" files.

There are higher quality choices you could use, like DV-AVI, but that will result in larger file sizes and the quality may or may not be any better than the one you picked. It may also not be the best choice depending on what you intend to do with the file later. The one you selected is the best choice if you intend to make a DVD-Video disc eventually, as that is the format it would end up in anyway, and the fewer times you re-render a file the better.
