Um.msi Unavailable

Steve2685

Question

I receive this when opening Roxio Creator 2009 Ultimate:

The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the package 'UM.msi' in the box below.

Use source:

C:\DOCUME~1\Steve\LOCALS~1\Temp\_ir_vp2_temp_0\

When clicking on OK, I get this:

'The path C:\DOCUME~1\Steve\LOCALS~1\Temp\_ir_vp2_temp_0\ UM.msi' cannot be found. Verify you have access to this location and try again, or try to find the installation package 'UM.msi' in a folder from which you can install Roxio Update Manager.

Clicking on Cancel gives me this:

An installation package for the product Roxio Update Manager cannot be found. Try the installation again using a valid copy of the installation package 'UM.MSI'.

Clicking 'x' brings me back to the same message at the top of this post. I end up having to go into Task Manager and killing the process from the Applications tab.

Creator 2009 Ultimate will open a minute or 2 after this message pops up. What can I do to resolve this problem?

Any help would be appreciated.

Steve

Doesn't the bold text give you a hint? UM is the update manager that can be deleted or rendered inactive. First try to use Microsoft's Installer Clean up utility. Read the instructions and delete only that program. If that doesn't work,

Do a clean (uninstall) install (for XP). This time, make sure you have checked for malware and viruses and have defragged your hard drive. When you install, make sure that your anti-virus is turned off; not just paused. (This is one of the major causes for bad installation)

Process for Vista.

Print off the instructions and don't skip any steps.

I was successfully able to remove Roxio Update Manager from Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility. How do I now reinstall Roxio's Update Manager?

Through the Clean Install

Or jsut do this - pop in from time to time and check for updates under support!

SP3 is the current update for 2009 so if you have that, you are good to go.

Tried to install it and it tells me I already have SP3.

Don't try to reinstall. It is a pain and it will pop up not only for Roxio but other programs you may or may not have on your computer.

I don't have Update Manager running on my computer. and don't miss it.
