Capture Problem

mrdragon46

Question

I have a Sony HDR-HC7 High Def video camera, which uses MiniDV tapes, I purchased Sony's Digital HD video tapes, I can watch my video on my HD T.V. and the video looks great( using HDMI hook-up), but when I try to capture the tape to my PC the video is pixelated in spots and choppy in other spots. If I set the camera to transfer the tape via HD-DV the image looks ok, no pixelation or choppy, I am using a brand new 4-6 pin firewire cable, what can I do to capture HD video without the pixelation and choppy? I am running a Intel Core 2 Quad 9650, 4 gigs of DDR3 ram, (2) 8800 GTS video cards running in SLI, I have tried capturing them to my main hard drive and I have tried capturing them to my back-up E-Sata drive with both doing the same thing. I have also tried capturing other tapes with the same results. Does anyone have any ideas? please help!

???????? You need to explain those two. You should be capturing the Tape using firewire and the camcorder should be set to HDV. I had the HC7 for a few months and had no issues capturing.

Capturing via firewire IS doing nothing but transferring the data. Technically I suppose you wouldn't call it 'capture' but that's the way it is and that's the way you should be doing.

I am using firewire from camera to my pc using i-link in HDV mode. I do not understand what to explain, I am new to this and I am not sure what other information is needed. If you mean pixelation and choppy I mean that the picture gets a few little squares in it for a few seconds, or the image seems to pause for just a second. This does not happen every second of the tape, but it does happen at least once or twice in a 3 minute clip, I hope this is the information that is needed?

Not really???

I think what Gary and I don’t understand is...

When, is it pixilated and choppy? After you burn it? – if it is during capture it is moot.

The other part is – ”If I set the camera to transfer the tape via HD-DV the image looks ok,…” Good, then use that setting to capture with?

Keep in mind we are not looking over your shoulder and cannot see anything that you are doing so it has to be spelled out in detail.

I watch the screen while it is being captured and I can see the pixilation and choppyness, which means that the video is then pixilated and choppy when I burn it. I would use the HD-DV setting but I am burning these videos to Blu-ray after I edit them, won't that affect the quality of the video on the Blu-ray? I really want to thank you guys for all your help!

Ah... to mean HD TO DV setting on the camcorder that down-converts to standard definition. When posting you need to very specific.

You shouldn't be having any hidef problems with that computer. I only have a dual core and capture HDV just fine. Even with the HC7 when I had it. You using Vista 64bit?
