Dead End - Capture Now Button Grey

BruceMc

Question

I bought the Easy VHSto DVD software today and carefully followed the directions for installation. I want to transfer from my video camcorder (tape) to my computer/DVD. I downloaded the software updates after initially Downloading from the original program disc.

My computer is a Soni VAIO/Intel Pentium ® 4 CPU 3.20 GHz 1.00GB RAM - ACPI Multiprocessor w/ Microsoft Windows XP I am using a new A/V cable from the camera to the 3 Yellow, Red, White plugs to the Roxio Video Capture USB.

I have checked for updated drivers for my Sony DVD RW DW-D-22A drive and all other hardware through the Device Manager which shows all are enabled and properly working. I have very carefully followed the directions to Plug & Burn and completed the Set Production page 1 options, then clicked on NEXT. Before I can change the Capture Device from SMRT Capture to USB 2861 Device, a pop-up window appears with “UNKNOWN CAPTURE ERROR”. Quickly, after clicking OK, I then can change to USB 2861 Device selection. The Quality box to the left is set to best quality at 720x480, 8.00 Mbs, AC3 Encoder and no chapters selected. The Input is set to: Composite Video.

Now the problem – The Capture now box is grey. I press play on the camera and sound only, no preview picture is received and cannot begin the capture. It is a dead end. I am using DVD-R 120 Min 16X speed 4.7 GB disc.

What has to happen to capture the tape?

Hi Bruce -

Many of the great suggestions Jim made can be found in this article:

Resolving common capture issues with the Roxio Video Capture USB device

Some of the suggestions in the article maybe redundant for you, but are a walk through for anything you have missed.

Let us know how it goes.

Take care,

Jon

It’s the drivers or it’s your hardware or it’s the device???

Do you have SP2 installed for the software? – pinned post at the top

Do your drivers match the pictures in cd’s pinned post at the top?

Do you plug the device into a port in the back of your PC?

How is the device connected to your Source?

Suggestion – forget Plug & Burn and use Capture.
