Cineplayer Hang

thegilpins

Question

When I play certain DVD's in CinePlayer the DVD disk menu is played correctly but when I select a menu option Cineplayer just hangs or worse the DVD disk menu is not displayed at all.

The DVD's in question are commercially produced DVD's and not ones I have created myself. Many commercial DVD's play without a problem.

This happened when I upgraded from XP to Vista as all my DVD's worked under XP. I have recently installed Roxio Creator 2009 Ultimate and this has not resolved the issue as it happened using EMC 10 as well.

For example Starwars Epsiode III will play

But Starwars Clone Wars will not play

My desktop is Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit, 4GB RAM, Geforce 9800 GTX+, Sounblaster X-Fi

I do not have a problem playing these DVD's using WMP, WMC or PowerDVD.

Can anyone help?

Go to Nvidia and check on the latest driver for your video card. Check the firmware level of your DVD drive. Soundblaster might also have an update for your card. Have you installed the Roxio sp3 update for Creator 2009?

Cineplayer for EMC 9 Suite works for me. Cineplayer for Creator 2009 under VISTA fails for me.

Hi, yes I have installed the latest drivers for nvidia and soundblaster and also Roxio SP3. Do you think I need to look at the DVD drive firmware if WMC and PowerDVD play the DVD's successfully?

If two out of three play the DVD correct, looking at your DVD drives firmware won't help!

Firmware is a Media Identification List and Burn Speeds for these Disc's...

If "WMC and PowerDVD play the DVD's successfully" I would stick with Cyberlink PowerDVD, because that is what I use.

Or continue to fight with Cineplayer, if everything works in Creator 2009 except Cineplayer, it isn't a big loss is it?

It's OK to try a DVD drive firmware update if available. Firmware updates fix many types of drive issues. I also use WMC and PowerDVD.

The same issues occurs when I play DVD copied to my C drive using the Cineplayer Browse DVD / Movie folder, so it cannot be a firmware issue.

Any ideas or is this a software bug with Cineplayer?

Doesn't sound like a bug. It sounds like Cineplayer doesn't like the movie for some reason. Use one of your other players to play the ones that don't play in Cineplayer.

Just an update to all those that have posted replies.

I did a clean install of Roxio 2009 which happened to coincide with release of SP4 which includes some Cineplayer fixes.

The good news is that now my DVDs play, but I am not sure if it is down to SP4 or the clean install.

Thanks for you all for your suggestions.

Why would it not be a bug? DVD's that do not play with Vista do play successfully with XP. These DVD's played without issue on the same PC when it had XP and only stopped working when I upgraded to Vista.

Also I have the Roxio software installed on another PC. The same DVDs play succesfully on this other PC that has XP, albeit not very smoothly due to its very low spec. Its a very old PC!

On my Vista PC the error occurs consitently with a number of my commercial PC's, yet the majority of commercial DVD's play without issue. It feels like a bug to me ...

IF there's a 'bug' in your case, it sounds like it could be in your Vista install.

Did you install Vista on top of XP or install it onto a clean formatted drive?

If you 'upgraded' XP to Vista, that could be where the trouble lies. Try installing vista onto a clean hard drive in that pc.

Hi, yes it is an upgrade from XP but a reinstall of Vista would be drastic.

Can Vista really be the culprit if Windows Media Centre, Windows Media Player and Power DVD can play the DVD's succesfully? It's only Cineplayer that has the issues.

I don't really want to consider a Vista install unless it is an absoulte must.
