Mydvd Menus

MSProductions

Question

Some of the many menu style options in MyDVD have buttons where the beginning few seconds of each chapter are shown.

On my first project something magical happened and I wound up with these animated buttons. But on my second project, when I tried to duplicate whatever happened the first time, I not only can't get the buttons, I can't even seem to get my chapters to show up in the task window.

My question is: what is the best (correct) procedure for capturing menus, making sure they appear in the video "tree" and setting them as motion menus on my MyDvd project. <_<

You will have to explain a bit more what you are doing, what menu style you are using, how many videos are you adding?

Also, what you are calling chapters are what are normally called Titles. Each video clip you add on the main menu pages becomes a Title (not a chapter). Chapters are "scenes" within one title and are created with the Edit Chapter option.

I don't understand what you mean by "capture menus"?

Perhaps this pinned post can help you

Yeah, I read that post by Jim first..

Okay. I've edited my video and it is one continuous piece. I exported to MyDvd and after choosing the menu style "Clouds" and inputtng the relevant information in the "Your Text Here" boxes, I click on Movies (stop the Preview that starts automatically) and click on Edit Chapters which is now highlighted. Using the ensuing window, I choose the places where I want to be able to skip to (or, what I want to become a new title). After clicking on "OK" and going back to the Menu tab, there are no chap... er, what you're calling 'titles' listed. I've tried this procedure by "adding Submenu" before I edited chapters as well as after I've edited chapters.

On one such project, the submenu was populated with the desired links to the points I desired. But either I did something extra and forgot it or I'm now not doing something I need to and can't figure out what it is.

Is this explanation any clearer?

Titles only appear on the main menu page and since you have only one movie there will only be the one Title - no chapters ever appear on this page. You seem to be creating the chapters correctly and they should have created a the chapter menu pages. Did you have the option to create menu pages and the links checked on the Edit Chapters window?

If the chapters were created there should also be chaptermenu tree in the menu panel on the bottom left of your screen.

Also if you preview the movie the chapter menu should appear when you click on the movie title.

We need to use the same terminology to keep down confusion.

Titles or movies are ONLY on the main menu. These are complete and separate videos.

When you choose 'Edit Chapters', obviously the results will be chapters or scenes which are points the viewer can jump to WITHIN one of the titles.

Now your problem.... When you click the Movie TAB and right click on the video name to select 'Edit Chapters', there is NO OPTION to create the sub-menu automatically. I have no clue why it isn't there. Perhaps because you aren't editing the Main Menu?

Go back to the Menu Tab and click on the Main Menu so you see it in the preview. RIGHT MOUSE click on the movie text button and THEN choose 'Edit Chapters'. You should then see at the bottom of the dialog box a check mark to 'Generate Chapter menu(s) and link to selected button'. Make sure that is checked. After marking your chapters and clicking OK, another button will be created that will take the viewer to the submenu with the chapter buttons.
