Video Capture Usb

Question

I purchased Roxio Creator 2009 with Roxio Video Capture USB device. I have a Windows Vista 64 bit computer. The software for Creator 2009 installed, as did the driver for the Video Capture. At least it seems to have installed, it shows up under device drivers. I thought I could attach a vcr player to the computer via the cords and transfer the vcr tape to the computer for use in creating my own videos. The vcr tape is old, not sure what type. The Roxio Creator software does not seem to recognize that the vcr is attached to the computer. Even if I press Play on the vcr player the software does not recognize the video on the vcr tape. Is what I am trying to do possible? Is the USB device only useful with a new video camera? I thought I could transfer my old (personal) VCR tapes to my computer.

Yes, you should be able to use any regular definition video source that has composite or s-video output. Double check you have connected the cables to the VCR OUT to the USB capture device. If you are using the composite video (yellow RCA), make sure you have selected composite in the Capture window. If using s-video, then select s-video in th Capture window.
