Sp4 For Creator 2009

John bunyan

Question

I downloded the Creator sp4 update, and tried to install it. Halfway through I got a message "Cannot delete target file C:/porgramme files/Roxio Creator2009/5.0/Filters/SonicHDdemuxer.dll . Tried twice, same result. In windows explorer the file seems to be where it should be. Any ideas?

I don't give it much chance but try running as an administrator and see if that works any better. I've run it on XP, Vista and W7 beta and had no problems on either.

Thanks. I am the administrator. The installation starts ok but stops half way through with the above message. Maybe I will try re - downloading the update and installing without AVG running - cant do any harm!

Turn off the AVG, and try installing again, without downloading the patch, again.

Thanks. I did send a query to Roxio Tech support, and, as usual they just suggest a clean reinstall. I am loathe to do this as I have XP Pro with all latest .NET Framework 3.5 and updates, and had trouble before on a reinstall as my C 2009 disc has earlier .NET Framework files. Also, if I did a clean reinstall, I wonder if C2009 SP4 has the earlier SP1, 2 and 3 built in? The problem seems isolated to the file SonicHDdemuxer.dll - maybe a registry issue as it appears in the right place in Windows explorer.. C2009 is mainly used by me for music, disc managment and greeting cards, and works. It takes so long to do the whole reinstall with the above complications. I will try, tommorow, another install of the SP4 with AGG8 swithed off, as you suggest.

GrandpaBruce. Tried again with AVG etc switched off - install got about half way but same messge appearedas in start of my first post ... "cannot delete target file etc. THh file is there in 5.0/Filters/ . I looked on my install disc, but could not find it when searching for all .dll files - another mystery! Any other suggestions gratefully received!

Got a futher advice (if you can call it that ) from Roxio tech. I pointed out previous probs with clean reinstall as I have Xp SP3 with all the .NET Framework 3.5 updates, and when you reinstall, the C2009 disc has older .NET framework on it . Anyway they said if it works, just leave it - dont bother with SP4 for C2009. I wonder if the file or registry entry is a problem and can I somehow fix this file and the registry entry . I am not experienced to do this and seek advice here.

Unless you are having problems....."if it ain't broke, don't update".

No that is false. The .NET 3.5 and SP1 are the latest and only files available to anyone. The Tech was blowing smoke your way and you bought it because you wanted to believe it.

No, I only find that the Roxio tech always want a long winded clean reinstall. On the issue of the SP4 and C2009, a number of people have the same problem as I, and I believe there is a glitch in SP 4 for some configurations. Here in UK it is expensive and difficult to telephone oxio tech, unlike MS, Adobe, Happuage etc. The number of threads on this forum on this issue are too many for a coincidence.
