Menu's With Toast 10 Pro

Question

Hi all,

I'm new to Toast 10 Pro and I need to find out how do I modify the menu or build in sub menu pages?

Example: Main Page is "Holiday 2008"

- link 1 to "Europe" page

- link 2 to "Americas" page

Sort of an interactive menu like what iDVD can do. Would be even better if I can add soundtracks to these sub menu pages. Right now all I can seem to do is dump photo and video files which looks very unattractive and cumbersome to use.

Thanks

Kazza

Toast has basic menus with no audio. Click on the menu-style thumbnail in the left-side panel to see the menu options. There is no customizing of scene (or chapter menus). To change the video frame showing as the menu button click on the thumbnail next to the video title and drag the scroll bar.

To be honest that is lame for such a great product. How is that crappy iDVD can have basic menu's but Toast 10 Pro has very basic menus? That does not make sense.

2 questions ... Can I import other menu's from other apps such as iDVD? Who in Roxio do I need to complain to get menu editing included?

Not happy

You realise you can:

(i) change the menu background image to any still image you create

(ii) change the thumbnail image for each chapter to any frame in that chapter

(iii) change each chapter's title

(iv) change the menu title

(v) choose from (slightly) different layouts in the menu templates

It's not great, but it's something more than nothing.

You cannot import menus from other applications. If you have another application that authored a video DVD you can copy that DVD with Toast which retains the menus and use Toast fit-to-DVD to compress a dual-layer-sized DVD to a single-layer disc which retains the menus as long as you copy the entire DVD.

Personally I like Toast's menus because of their simplicity and they take up little space on a DVD. I watch movies, not menus, and only need a menu to help me select what I want to watch. I have other DVD-authoring applications when I want motion menus but rarely use them. Toast 10 has the best-looking and customizable menus of any version of Toast to date. There is a Toast feedback link in Toast Help to give Roxio any user feedback.

Why not just use iDVD for your project? If the format of the video file doesn't import to iDVD you can use Toast's convert window to convert the video to DV and then add it to iDVD.

...........I have other DVD-authoring applications when I want motion menus but rarely use them. .......

Hear, hear! I never use motion menus - I find them distracting and time wasting, along with animated pre- and post- button-selection movie clips.

I would like the option for background music looping under the menus though. I find it's helpful to give the time and opportunity for some users to set up audio switching/levels/routing/decoding etc. before starting the main program.

I would like Toast 10 to have a "menu background audio track" option. I might try the official "Toast Feedback" option - see if it has any effect!

I completely agree. If they had audio with menus maybe they also could provide audio with slide shows.

I've been tearing my hair out trying to figure out how to change or add chapter titles, or even how to access the chapter menu for editing, for that matter. You've apparently figured it out. Can you enlighten me?

You cannot change or edit the chapter (or scene) menus. You only can edit the title menus. The chapter/scene menu is either turned on or turned off. This is done by adding or removing the check mark next to "Include Scene Menus for Video" that is one of the options in the Menus window that appears when you click on the menu style.

Well, "Rookie", in the post above appears to know something we don't.

Nope. The example shown is of a title menu and not of a chapter/scene menu. The latter has 12 thumbnail images (three rows of 4) with no text.
