Sp4 Update - Cannot Delete Target File Sonichddemuxer.dll

oz_image

Question

Upon installation of the recently released Creator2009SP4.exe

the update stops about two thirds of the way through, advises it will "rollback"

because it cannot delete target file C:\Program Files\Roxio Creator 2009 Ultimate\5.0\Filters\SonicHDDemuxer.dll

Can anyone shed some light on this problem or advise a fix for this problem please?

Gidday Mate,

Glad the Clean Install fixed that problem.

What updates for .NET 3.5 did you have installed? Was it SP1 for .Net 3.5 ?

I haven't heard of anyone having to fiddle further with .Net 3.5 after a clean install. I can't see anything in the Clean Install instructions which would disturb the .NET Framework, so I don't think you'll need to fiddle any further with it.

Cheers,

Brendon

G'day Brendon,

Yes, I've got .NET Framework 3.5, SP1 installed.

Thank you for your helpful comments.

Right,

You've found that a clean reinstall will fix the C2009 SP4 installation. Several others have found that doing the SP4 install through safe mode works.

I don't think the clean reinstall should disturb the .NET SP1, unless reinstalling C2009 overwrites SP1 with the old .NET 3.5 files, but I don't know of a way to check that short of actually reinstalling C2009.

Is there a reliable way to tell if .NET has still got SP1 applied or not, apart from checking files before and afterward?

I have the same problem... Can you help me? I have Windows Vista Home premium in a DELL Inspiron 530 (32bit) . I send e-mail to support ... but nothing at all!!!

Thank you!

I'm on Vista Premium 64-bit... here's what I did (note: I have the special edition of Roxio Creator... the one that came with the USB video capture device, but I believe Creator 2009 is the same AFAIK)

Located the SonicHDDemuxer.dll file, and renamed it to SonicHDDemuxer2.dll. Once I did that another copy of SonicHDDemuxer.dll suddenly appeared. I then started up the SP4 update and then manually deleted the SonicHDDemuxer.dll file before it got to that point where SP4 tries to delete it (perhaps it would have been able to delete it now, but I didn't bother to let it try). The SP4 install completed successfully this time, and a new SonicHDDemuxer.dll now existed, version 5.0.0.133 dated 4/14/2009. (the older one was 5.0.0.129)

After the required reboot, I went back and deleted the renamed SonicHDDemuxer2.dll.

For grins I searched the registry for SonicHDDemuxer, and luckily all entries pointed to SonicHDDemuxer.dll not SonicHDDemuxer2.dll.

One area of concern. The location that was updated was at:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Roxio Creator 2009 Special Edition\5.0\Filters\SonicHDDemuxer.dll

Which is the location the SP4 wanted to delete/update.

However there is also a really old version at:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Roxio Creator 2009 Special Edition\Common\SonicHDDemuxer.dll

It is version 4.3.0.124

There are a few registry entries that point to that file... what's up with that??

I had this happen running the x86 version and the x64 one installed just fine. The first time I was successful by running the update in safe mode. I did a clean reinstall and tried again and this time tried to manually remove the .dll file which did not work. I used Unlocker to delete the file and the update then worked.

I've reported this issue to Roxio with the hope that they are looking into it.

Have you tried the solutions given in this topic? Installing in Safe Mode?

Take a look at that path in Explorer and see if that file exists.I juts checked mine and it's there.

Had a look in Explorer and, yes, it's there.

File size is 223KB

File date is 10/08/2008 (10th Aug) 3:44 am

Should I delete this file in Explorer and then try to run the SP4 update?

Usually the reason a file can't be deleted in Windows is because it is in use, and Windows has locked it.

Please make sure that nothing which might use that file is running when you do the update.

Sometimes having the file marked with a Read-only or Hidden attribute can cause complications. Right click on that file, and select 'Properties'. In the Advanced section of the General tab, if the Read-only or Hidden boxes are checked, uncheck them then click OK. Then try the update again.

I carried out the clean install, not realising it has probably overwritten my .NET Framework 3.5 updates. The clean reinstall did fix the problem. Is it possible to reinstall the .NET Framework 3.5 updates now that the SP4 update is in place?

That has nothing to do with anything... As Brendon said a file in use cannot be removed. Something is running that file, try it in safe mode.

I am aware a file in use cannot be removed Jim.

As I said, the clean reinstall did fix the problem, as the SP4 update attempt was successful.

Thank you for your help
