Video Editing Advanced

RoyHooks

Question

I am unable to use movie editing facility from video files created by canon camcorder DC230 (.VOB files). The software loads the file but on attempting to play video clip, whole pc freezes immediately and pc must be restarted.

So far, all updates and patches updated, defragged yesterday and disk scanned. More than sufficient memory and processor speed.

I have tried renaming the file to .mpg but this did not work either.

Hope you can help.

I don't understand how you are adding the vob file in Videowave  What small window on the right are you talking about?

Here is what should happen using VW:

1-click on "add Photo/Video"

2-the Insert Photos/Videos window should open in the center of the screen

3-navigate to the Video_TS folder

4-Double click on any of the IFO or VOB files in in the window

5-another window should open giving you the option to select the movie you want to add

6-select the movie

7-After a few seconds the movie should appear on the timeline or storyline.

If this doesn't happen then there is something wrong with your Video_TS folder or your C2009 install

This doesn't happen. I've tried re-installing the software, still doesn't happen. The window I meant was the square screen showing the actual video above the storyline/timeline that's all.

I guess we'll have to look in to the Video-TS folder. Maybe it's linked to the camcorder and what setting I should be using. Will look into it further. Thank you again.

You continue to leave out the details needed…

This will really take a long time to resolve if continue to keep everything secret…

List the details and I shall let you in on it. Thanks, Guru.

What software did you use to load the video to the computer? Did you use standard recording on the camera or somethng else (like the setting where you can edit on the camera)? If you used that, you will probably have problems. Search this site for some solutions. You have to use the Canon software and/or finalize the disc. From the Canon site, videos made with that camera are designed for direct playback; not editing.

That qualitive evaluation means nothing. If the problem is important enough to post and expect someone to help, you need to provide the full specs of your computer including video card/chip information.

Does your computer exceed the minimun requirements for the program?

"What Software loads the file"? "Attempting to play video" with what program? Did you copy the Video_TS folder from the camcorder DVD to your PC? Are you loading the vobs from that copied folder or direct from the DVD?

Very little information to work with

OK. Firstly the reason that there is little information to work with is that I'm a pc beginner.

Secondly, I will do my best to give all information you need if you think you may be able to help.

Yes, I copied the video ts folder from the camcorder DVD to my pc. I tried both loading it from dvd and from copied folder inot the ROXIO creator editting window, but the system crashes.

System is following spec...

Acer ASM1610/VTM261 Intel core CPU, 4400@ 2.00GHz, 2.50GB RAM, 32-bit op sys. Windows Vista Home premium.

What else do you require?

Thank you.

In reply to your very polite (!) answer, the computer far exceeds the minimum requirements of the program. Full spec as much as I can tell (being a beginner with pc's) is as follows:

Acer ASM1610/VTM261 Intel core CPU, 4400@ 2.00GHz, 2.50GB RAM, 32-bit op sys. Windows Vista Home premium.

I just realized that you are in the UK. I found the site but according to Acer, that computer comes with XP and not Vista (they may not be up to date). I did not see a updated driver for that series for Vista. Did you or someone else do an XP to Vista update.

Can you open Video Wave or MyDVD? If so, go to the top menu and select tools, options and then put a dot next to software. Leave it there. Now try adding one of the files. Wait until your hard drive stops blinking and then see if it still locks up.

Your PC is probably OK but you haven’t answered any other questions asked…

So far all we know is that, you have icecream and now it is melted… you not telling us what happened from the store to the puddle

I'm glad this is fun for you. Lovely american humour!

This Acer came with Vista. I've updated latest drivers, and the VISTA update's not changed this issue either.

OK, I did as you suggested, the dot's by Software in 'options'.

The file works when loaded and played in MyDVD, but not in Videowave. Basically, in Videowave (editing advanced) I choose 'add photo/video', the file loads and I can see the video file on the right in the small window. On pressing play, the system freezes completely.

Thank you. Yes, in Devon in the UK... bit of a time difference with the replies!
