Toast 9 Hangs

SAH

Question

Up until a few days ago, I had no trouble creating DVDs or CDs with Toast. I had to do an archive and install, and my problems began after that. I can get Toast to create Divx DVDs of one or two files. If I try to make a DVD that is close to full, Toast simply hangs. I should add that the operating system has no trouble burning to a DVD or to a CD.

I have done the following:

Deleted preferences in HD/Library and user/Library

Deleted Toast

Secure deleted Toast

Repaired permissions

Restarted

Reinstalled the latest version of Toast

The same thing happens. I am using Verbatim DVDs.

Something happened during the archive and reinstall. I deleted all the old previous systems, which is something that I have never done before. Can anyone please offer me any suggestions as to how to fix this problem. Thanks.

Steven

Toast 10 does not include a DivX codec. There is no longer any DivX encoding with Toast 10. I do have the DivX 6.6 codecs (for use with DivX Converter) and both Toast 9 and 10 on my system with no conflict. I saw no reason to install DivX 7 because, if I understand it correctly, it moved to h.264 encoding. The devices that I need DivX for cannot play h.264.

This is my first post and I am here due to frustration with failed burning of DVD's due to Sense code errors. I hope I am in the right Forum.

I originally used Toast 8 with no problems for 15 months.

Downloaded two weeks ago Toast 10 and then my problems started. I had not deleted Toast 8 so I thought they maybe the problem. Therefore I deleted Toast 8 and 10 to try again. Downloaded Toast 9 but still no joy.

Out of 22 EMTEC DVD+R 4.7 /120mins/16x.(I have used these all along with no problems before) only two burned successfully.

Error codes - The drive reported an error

Sense Key=Hardware Error

Sense Key = 0x09,0x01

Tracking Servo Failure

My Macbook sounds like it is in overdrive and it takes quite a while before it lets me eject the failed disc.

I took my Macbook to Mac repairer and the technician did quick check in case it was my Driver causing problems but he said it was OK..

I have checked all Forums and did what was suggested to no avail.. What should I do know? :angry2:

Please accept my apology in advance if I have not used proper protocol for this post.

I'm replying to my own question because I solved the problem. Somehow, during the archive and reinstall, the Divx codec installed in /Library/Quicktime began to have a conflict with the Divx 6 codec in Toast 9. I removed the Quicktime codecs, and Toast began to encode again. I was a little nervous about putting them back in to Quicktime because Divx only supports the Divx 7 codec, but I did it anyway. Toast 9 and the Quicktime Divx 7 coded are getting along, and everything is working. I should have realized much earlier that it was a problem with the encoding. But it all works now. And I won't upgrade to Toast 10 until all the Divx complaints have stopped!

You probably should have started a new topic with this issue. This sounds like a problem with the media you are using. Try again using Verbatim discs. You can check user reports on the reliability of those EMTEC discs by inserting a disc and choosing Disc Info from the Recorder menu. There you'll see a hot link to a Web site where users submit their experience with different media. My guess is yours will have a rather poor rating.
