Burning Data Cd's

BigD1

Question

I have Easy CD & DVD burning software. Most of what I do is create data and photo files for use by someone else or just as backup for my own files. I have been able to create an image file but have not been able to convert the file to the actual data. It’s like I have a zip file and cannot unzip it to look at the actual files.

Also if I try to use the drag and drop feature the pop up says that I must format the entire disk before copying the files. On a previous version I was able to copy just what I needed and the software would format just the space I needed. I could leave the disk open for reading on other computers with Drag to Disk or I could close it so it could be read on any other computer

I don’t need to make video files or music disks. During the good old days you could just throw in a floppy, copy and be done with it….Oh well

Thanks in Advance for any help for this newbie

Brendon is not on at the moment, so I will sneak in!

It did exactly what you told it to do!

You said you ”…checked save disk (sic) image file…” so it created an image of the image. (FYI: Optical media is spelled disc - magnetic medai is spelled disk)

When you reach the Burn screen, you have to select what drive to Burn it to. Give that a try and see what happens.

Thanks for your reply..

I have the program on two PC’s. Your last post solved the problem I was having with that PC.

Now I have installed the program on another PC and the program keeps telling me that there is

No Device Detected. I have two internal DVD recorders connected to this machine one of which is a new

Memorex. I have gone to tools, options menu and checked the advanced options menu and it also said that there is no device detected. Both CD’s work as normal with other applications. Also, when I try to download the contents of an image file stored under My Documents I get the same message...."No Device connected"

Can you help?

Thanks in advance

Dick

Try the PXEngine update to fix that. If the v4 one doesn't fix it, try the v3 one. It works sometimes when the other one doesn't.

Hello Dick,

Your email address has been 'denatured' to prevent it being harvested by the spammers' robots.

To burn an image file to disc [which is what they're for] use the 'Burn Image' item in the copy guide.

post-208-1241395064.jpg

or you could run Creator Classic and burn the image from there.

On this version of Drag-to-Disc you must format the whole disc before you can copy data onto it.

Easy CD and DVD Burning is a subset of Easy Media Creator 9, so you get version 9 of Drag-to-Disc with it. There will be no more versions past version 9, as Sonic have dropped Drag-to-Disc from their suites. It is provided natively in Vista as the 'Live File System', so although a properly updated D2D will run well in Vista there is no need for an independent version of the same thing any more.

Yes, there are many to would like a return to the simple days but hardware has advanced and proliferated, and folks want software for all the new abilities.

Brendon...

Thanks for the reply. I have done that and what I end up with is one file that is an image file on my CD. How do I convert that file so that I can view the actual individual files on that disk.

Unless your image file contained an image file, it should have ended up on the CD as an exact copy of the CD that the image was made from - with files and folders visible, just like the original.

Which system did you use? Home > Copy > Burn image [as above] or

Creator Classic > Burn from Disc Image File [below] ??

Brendon.....Thanks for the reply

I Opened Creator Classic, found the photograph files on my computer using select Source. I then highlighted the files and dragged them to Data Disk Project and clicked on Burn. This process created an image file under My Documents on my computer. I then used Burn Disk From Image menu and found the file under my documents. I then selected the file which came up in a window called Burn From Dick Image File and then clicked Open. A new window opened called Roxio Creator Classic Burn Setup. I checked save disk image file and used Browse to locate the disk drive on my computer. I clicked OK and the “image file”, not the individual files, was copied to my new CD. I know you are most likely shaking your head by now wishing you had never responded……
