Usb Capture Device......it Looks Hopeless Now

yeeman

Question

OK....I've come to the end of my struggles with this !!! I've re-installed the software for the device, installed any Creator 2009 updates, had Sony help me update any audio & video drivers for my laptop ( Vista-32 bit ), was informed by Roxio that Creator 2009 does not support the Realtek integrated audio chip, & now Realtek tells me that their audio chip does NOT support USB devices. What can I do now except look for a different device just to capture analog audio....the video ( w/audio ) capture seems to work fine. What a nightmare !!!

Am I replying in the correct box ???

Anyway, I may be a partial moron, but is SP 3/4 a microsoft service pack I should look for ?

I'll give your last suggestion a try & get back to you....thanx.

*** OK, I'm back. When I'm in the video capture page/box ( Creator 2009 )....I can hear the audio from the cassette player, but NO audio signal is detected.

So, where is this Sound Editor link I should click on ?

ALSO: What is this " Roxio Cineplayer Decoder pack Disk " message that keeps popping up ?!?!?!?!

SP 3 and 4 are the updates for Creator 2009. SP 4 contains everything that is in SP 3, SP2, and SP1. All you need to do is download and install SP 4. This may cure your issue.

Sound Editor is "Edit Audio". See image. (You really need to explore all the applications to see what you bought). CinePlayer is the DVD player software in Creator 2009. Unless you tell us what the erro message is, we can't help.

Also if you want to capture LP, a stand alone deck does not have the output power. You will need an amp to boost the signal. It can be a simple $30 preamp. Search for one on-line.

Installed that SP 4 last week.....no luck.

I'm just coming out of the headphone jack from a cheap cassette/receiver unit for testing purposes right now....just to have a signal.

I'll worry about the "Cineplayer Decoder " crap later.

I was almost going to give up & purchase the Behringer UFU202 audio capture device ( w/built-in pre-amp )....$30.00, but was afraid that the message I got from

REALTEK was true, & will not be able to use ANY USB device for analog audio capture with the integrated Realtek audio chip.

Try going from teh Cassette headphone jack directly to the audio input on the laptop. Make sure the volume is turned down first. :) Launch Sound Editor and start audio capture. Choose Realtek audio input. Start the cassette player and slowly turn up the volume. This works on my desktop, but I've never tried it on a laptop.

Guessing your lap has a Firewire (1394) port?

Then all you need is an A/D Converter that works with Firewire:

Pyro

Canopus

Dazzle

Are a few – there are more if you look.

It is either that or get a PC that has the horsepower to do video.

Edit: One more question... Is that lack of Audio Capture with just straight Audio or also with Video too?

..was informed by Roxio that Creator 2009 does not support the Realtek integrated audio chip, & now Realtek tells me that their audio chip does NOT support USB devices.
Neither of those statements make any sense to me. The Roxio USB capture device has it's own audio chipset to capture so it does NOT use the Realtek chipset at all. It's used only for playback. If you can hear sound at all, then there is probably nothing wrong with the Realtek drivers.

My desktop has a Realtek chipset on the motherboard and I have no issues whatsoever. Sounds more like they are trying to pass the buck. You didn't post what the issue is. No sound when capturing? That would have to be the drivers for the USB Capture device. Has nothing to do with the Realtek audio.

There is NO audio signal detected when the source is a turntable or cassette deck.....stangely, when the source is a DVD player of camcorder, I can capture the video with the audio.

All I want to do is be able to use the Roxio USB device to capture analog audio. I can capture video WITH audio using Creator 2009 but no detection of signals from turntables or cassette decks. Yes, I have a firewire port in my Sony VGN-FW290 NDB which has plenty of horsepower ( check the specs ), but it's the USB device I need for analog audio capture at this point.

Ah.... sorry, but I have never gotten Creator 2009 to capture AUDIO ONLY. Originally Creator 2009 did NOT have this feature. Supposedly, service pack 3 or 4 added this feature, but I have never gotten it to work. Make sure you have downloaded and applied the latest SP4.

However I did find a silly work around. I know it sound silly , but it does work for me.

Click on the option to capture VIDEO. Ok, stick with me here! :)

Choose the USB Capture device. You will get an error there is no video. Ignore it. You should be able to hear any audio from the turntable.

LEAVE THIS OPEN

Now Open Sound Editor and click on capture audio

You should now be able to capture the audio.
