Avchd Archiving- Help!

destrino

Question

Hi-

First time posting, but I've done a lot of searching on here...and I searched high and low for this answer, but no luck. So, here it goes:

Upgraded OS 10.4.? to OS X 10.5.6 in order to be able to use Toast to archive AVCHD files from my Canon Vixia HF10. I have had absolutely no luck making this work (but it did make a dvd video of the footage). First, I tried the more complex way of doing it where I picked the exact media files I wanted from the Media Browser and dragged them to roject area, but that always automatically changed me to the DVD-Video tab (which is how I learned that I could indeed burn the aforementioned DVD).

When that didn't work, I tried doing a basic AVCHD Archive to a regular DVD (after failing with a DL). It goes through the motions: asks for blank DVD, calculates how many discs will be needed, burns for a while, then sticks at 30% for a while...then I get this error msg:

Could not record the disc because there was an I/O error (your disc may be copy-protected). Result Code = -36

Please note: I'm using blank Verbatim DVDs. I've tried a bunch of other ways to make this AVCHD Archive process work-- tried doing it from the SD card in the camera, fixed disc permissions, verified, tested burner to make sure it works, etc. rebooted, etc, etc. Many things I don't remember anymore. Along the way, I also received this code (doing something similar to what I described for the other code-- sorry don't remember exactly, so tired and confused!):

Could not record the disc because of a Mac OS Error Result Code= -50

Couldn't really find many fixes for these particular error messages in reference to basic AVCHD Archive. It seems like it should be so easy-- they brag about the feature in their advertising!

Am I doing something wrong? Any thoughts?

Thank you!

You posted in the Toast 9 Forum so I'm presuming you're using Toast 9 instead of Toast 10 that has the AVCHD Archive setting.

The only thing I can think that would work in Toast 9 is to import the AVCHD video to the hard drive and then to burn a data DVD that spans across multiple discs if necessary. I haven't done it but if dragging the AVCHD video from the browser to the Video window causes the video to be written to the Roxio Converted Items folder (in your Documents folder by default) you can drag those files from the converted items folder into the Data window to burn your DVD.

The AVCHD Archive feature in Toast 10 is a better way to go.

Shoot- what a Newbie move. I meant to post in Toast 10.

I've moved this to the Toast 10 forum.

Here's

an article that includes a description on how to use the AVCHD archive feature.

Thanks for moving this to the correct forum, and thank you for the article. Unfortunately, I did exactly what they described and got the results that I described above in my original post. The AVCHD Archive feature isn't working (for me).

Hi-

Just wanted to let you know that I figured out the problem: It was my camera. For some reason, the HF10 doesn't get along with my Mac (not sure if this is common?) so I used a card reader, instead of connecting camera directly to computer.

I tried out the AVCHD Archive feature and it works perfectly now-- I really love this feature! So useful! The archive DVD also worked with the Log & Transfer feature in FCP as expected. YAY!

Happy Toasting!

Thanks for posting your workaround. There is another topic that just was posted where a user asked about whether it works using a card reader. Now we know!
