PLUG and Burn with USB device

JDH32

Question

Larry,

I recently decided to try and make a DVD of old VHS tapes I have lying aroung the house. I have Roxio Creator 2009 on my laptop so I also bought a USB Video Capture device when I had a look on the www.Roxio.com website, it quotes the following:

"Roxio Video Capture USB

Easily preserve your old home movies and tapes in digital quality

It's a sad fact that treasured home movies shot on VHS, Hi8, and V8 tapes will degrade over time, eventually disappearing altogether. Roxio Video Capture USB device combined with Creator 2009 make it simple to preserve those irreplaceable memories by transferring them to digital media such as DVD."

Your last quote to Jim implies the opposite? Can you please confirm whether or not I will be able to burn a DVD from a VHS tape using Creator 9? I was under the impression I had connected up incorrectly?

Thanks

Jamie

No my last post in this thread does not imply the opposite of the advertising you copied from their website.

My last post was in reference to a specific feature, the Plug & Burn, that is in both Creator 2009 and Easy VHS to DVD ( and earlier products also btw) and it's functional limits. There are many ways to transfer video from tapes, cameras, etc and burn them to DVD's using the software. Plug & Burn is just one such way, and in most of the experienced users here, the poorest method to use.

I've only used it a couple times, for testing, yet I've transfered 100's of hours of tapes to DVD's using Creator 2009 and it's predecesors. And using multiple types of capture hardware, including the Roxio USB device.

So bottom line is, if you got the Roxio USB capture device to go along with your Creator 2009, you can do just what it says, transfer your tapes to DVD. It even appears that the Creator 2009 SP4 update may allow you to use Plug & Burn also now [which wasn't available when this thread started] if you really want to try it.

Thanks Larry,

I never realised that Creator 2009 and Easy Media Creator 2009 were different. It is actually the Easy Media Creator 2009 that I have installed. Does this make any difference to my query?

I also mentioned in an earlier post what my connections were, Can you please confirm if I have my VCR and laptop connect properly or do I require an additional SCART as well as my USB capture device.

Thanks

Jamie

There are SCART adapters that have the connecters but are not wired to actually pass signals. – you appear to have one for Audio only. You need to take it to an electronics store and see what they can do to make sure your SCART adapter is fully functioning.

You should start your own topic about this rather than butting into someone elses...

The Red/Yellow/White connections sound like you have them hooked up correct. Altho you only need either the Yellow or the S-Video connected for the video signal, not both. Since I don't have or use a SCART setup, I can't help much there. Follow Jim's advice on getting the SCART adapter checked out.

To your statement on which software you have, you can't have Easy Media Creator 2009 as there is no such product. So I'm guessing you do actually have Creator 2009 as that's the only product numbered that way. It is sometimes confused with Easy Media Creator 9 by posters because they shorten the 2009 to 9 and think they are the same thing, which they are not. These are the Easy Media and Creator products that have been released, with the most current at the top.

Creator 2009 [technical v11]

Easy Media Creator 10

Easy Media Creator 9 [not the same as Creator 2009]

Easy Media Creator 8

Easy Media Creator 7.5

Easy Media Creator 7

Guys, It's my turn lol.

I have recently decided to try and copy old VHS tapes to DVD. I have Creator 2009 installed on my laptop so I then purchased an Easy USB Capture device. When I go to Plug and Burn on the Creator software there is nothing in the dropdown menu where the capture device. I'm not too sure if I have all cables properly connected.

1. USB Capture device was installed successfully and connected to my laptop.

2. I have my Easy Capture device connected to RED, WHITE, YELLOW and S-VIDEO cables straight to a Scart Adapter Switchable Plug to Socket which is then connected to my VCR.

Should this be enough to be able to record to DVD. When I try there is still no signal.

Do I require an additional Scart Cable connecting my VCR to my laptop ( I was under the impression that this was what the USB device was for).

Thanks

Jamie

Please do not call it Creator 9, it confuses the product with Easy Media Creator 9, which is 2 versions older] ? I was under the impression I had connected up incorrectly?
