Video Capture Shouldn't Be This Difficult

Captn John

Question

Don't want to be whining, BUT.

Bought Creator 2009 because MyDVD doesn't seem to be being supported well anymore. (Got a special edition combo pack with video capture USB included). The included driver disk didn't work properly...although it said it successfully installed the drivers for USB device, everytime I plug it in Windows (XP with SP3) kick's off the install driver wizard. I visited support and downloaded the recommended driver install update. It seems to download and unpack to my desktop fine; run fine and gave same "sucessfully installed drivers". NOT !!!!

Everytime I try to use the USB device, I get the Windows warning. I've tried the various options of install, repair, uninstall and reinstall, etc, etc, Nothing's working. I've gone into control panel and completely removed the driver (BIG YELLOW "?" confirming the bad install) and attmepted to reinstall with and without the USB plugged in. I've tried front and back USB slots. I've also connected my newer Digital camcorder to the firewire port just to ensure that Creator itself was installed properly, it recognizes the unit and immediately goes to capture mode. But when I try to connect my old SuperVHS to the USB.....NADA!!! Any more ideas?? I'm ready to just return the whole package to the store.

P.S. HP Pavillion with P4, 2 gig ram, 180g HD running WinXP SP3. Yes the weak link is an on-board NVidia G-Force 4 MX 440 chip, but it's worked fine before with all the other software.

You mentioned a “Windows Warning”, might that be the one about a USB2 port?

The product is very easy as long as hardware meets the minimums and instructions are followed.

That was before. Creator 2009 can actually take advantage of the graphics chip for processing video. With that chipset, you will have to use 'software' only mode, but should still work. The USB device is USB 2. If you don't have a USB 2 port, it may not work probably.
