Syrallas
OK, I want to start saving my .iso files on a hd rather than burning an extra copy "just in case", which uses not only the dvds but also, of course, my dvd burner. So, I want to have an external hard drive for storage of these .iso files. Staples offers this 1TB version. Is this a good idea? bad idea? What puzzles me is that Staples is also offering a Seagate 500 gb for the same price, which gets me a little leary of the Western Digital hd. By the way, I want to get my external hard drive at Staples because I have a $100.00 gift card there.
cdanteek
Newegg had the SATA 1TB Black 32MB Cache 5 year warranty for $94.99 free shipping yesterday.. Then buy a enclosure that works with it, sound like a plan? cd
Brendon
It wasn't Western Digital who had millions of drives go hinky and lose their data just recently, it was Seagate with their bad firmware. All my large drives are Western Digital. I wouldn't have another brand.

Beerman
I'll add my paltry 2 cents and say that while I am concerned about my 1tb Seagate, I upgraded the firmware a while back and have been running all betas of W7 on it since January with no problems (fingers crossed). When I do build again, I'll likely have both Seagate and WD's installed. I will say my Seagate is pretty quiet which was a surprise to me.

Syrallas
Thanks to everyone out there for your input. I ended up getting a slightly different version of the WD 1 tb external hd -- a little bit more $$$ but a longer warranty. That should certainly help my storage needs for a while at least. Thanks again, esp. to cd who patiently explored the pros and cons of different drives via PMs with me....
