Music On Cd-rw

rdbrannon

Question

I am trying to burn a song to an audio CD using a CD-RW. I know it won't play on home or car stereo but want to do it anyway. However, the software starts the process and then ejects the CD asking for a blank CD. The CD is blank and formatted. Will it not write to CD-RW's? Roxio 5 would, as I recall. :)

Whenever you put an Audio CD into a player it usually goes out to a database to see what disc you've inserted. If it is a disc that you've made it won't be in that database, therefore no names pop up for the cd.

I just wanted WMP to get the titles from the file names instead of naming them Track 1, 2 . . .

OK, the media I am trying to write to is CD-RW, high speed 4x upt o12x multi speed. The drive is brand new, it is a Plextor DVDR PX-716AL, the manual says it supports up to 24x ultra speed. I don't know what you mean by drive id but the drive is assigned letter D:.

Well - it was a shot in the dark - the media you are using should burn just fine with your Plextor drive.

Hopefully someone else will have brainstorm for you.

If you had made an mp3 disc they would have.Mp3's are data files that retain the track info.Audio Cd's on the other hand rely on identifiers that tell a database what to look for.If the disc isn't in the database the program you're trying to play them with uses then no names.Hence, any CD you burn as an Audio CD won't have the names show up,just track numbers.

As a follow-up I did a quick erase to the CD after the above. Then I tried to burn an appendable CD from Creator Classic and hit the burn button. This started the process but the CD was ejected saying to put in a blank CD. Then I immediately tried to burn a read-only CD again and the process started fine and then gave me the same unknown error again. :)

It sure sounds like you have some issues going on between your burner and the media.

What burner is this? Does it have the most recent firmware? Sometimes firmware updates impact the ability to burn to particular media.

What speed cdrw media are you trying to burn? What cd-rw media does your burner support. This would say something like "high speed" or "ultra speed" or maybe nothing at all. Older burners without a "high" or "ultra" speed rating cannot write to high or ultra speed media. A burner rated for high speed - cannot write to ultra speed media.

If none of this makes sense - just come back and tell us exactly what drive you have and what media you are trying to use and we'll try again. The make, model number and drive-id would be good. Be sure to tell us the speed rating of the media you are trying to use.

If I recall correctly, that "Unknown error" is telling you that one of the songs you've got in your list is "missing". If this is a "saved" project, go back and rebuild it. It sounds like you may have moved or deleted one of the files it's looking for, and for Music CD projects, it doesn't verify the existence of the files before starting the burn.

Hope that helps!

Yes, I did use a CD-RW right out of the box, and that is what was rejected. So, where do I go from here?

Need some more details from you.

Tell us exactly what you are trying to do, step by step, what program within the suite are you using, etc.

Are you having problems with any other part of the suite?

What operating system do you have?

Does it work if you use a CD-r"?.

OK, I was just trying to burn one song to a CD-RW using Creator Classice from EMC Basic DVD Edition 7. I have no other known problems and am using XP Home SP2 with all the latest security fixes. I have not tried a CD-R because I have one left and wanted to make sure I got it right before using it.

One other thing, the disc may indeed have the CD-Text data written, but Windows Media Player does not read and display CD-Text data. If, as was said, this was a copy of a commercial disc that could be found in the online database, then it would likely display the names you want, but if it's a compilation of your own, it won't match anything in the database, and you'll get, "Track1", "Track2", etc.

Hope that helps!

It is apparent from looking at other posts that part of my problem is ROXIO 7 will NOT record WMA files, and that is the reason I have had the trouble I have. However, that still does not answer why I can't record to a blank CD-RW?

Well, I don't use .WMA files. I thought EMC 7 supported .WMA files, but obviously, it won't if they're from a download service like Napster, since those tunes will have DRM in them. Are these downloaded from a music service?

As for CD-RW, from what's been posted, it's entirely possible that there is a problem with that particular disc, or brand of discs. Another question, have you ever been able to write to CD-RW discs with this drive? If not, have you tried any other brands of blanks? If you haven't, I would suggest that you do so, as it's entirely possible that your drive is having an "issue" with the brand/lot of discs you have. It's also possible that the drive itself has a problem. Just because it's a new drive doesn't mean it's not faulty.

I was able to record to the CD-RW using Windows Media Player. So, no problem with the CD. I think the problem was with the DRM and Roxio and the error message was just not explicit that way. This work around is very troublesome and does not allow the name of the songs to be retained by WMP. ONe has to rename them. I cannot find a way to have the song names carried from the files to the tracks when recorded to CD using WMP.

Use a disc right out of the box, do not format it if you are using anything other than drag 2 disc. You can use Creator Classic to burn the audio cuts to the disc. If it purchased from an online store, you may have to use their program to get it onto the disc. You can then bring it back to tohe computer and use it.

The program should write to cd-rw's just fine. It may or may not play in your home/car stereo player - depending on whether those players can handle cd-rw media.

Your original post said the cd-rw media was "formatted". Is that true? Creator Classic generally wants a blank, unformatted media to burn to. With the cd-rw media in your burner, click "extras & utilities" from the EMC7 menu box and then open up "disk and device utility". That should show you your drive and the status of the cd-rw media in the drive. If it is not indicated as blank, you should be able to erase it from here - and thus eliminate the formatting from the media. Then try burning again from inside Creator Classic.

OK, I followed what you suggested and did a full erase/format. Afterword's the disc properties said there was a blank disk with 702MB empty space and one empty session. This is the same thing it said before the erase. So, then I went into Creator Classic to burn the CD with a full set of songs instead of just one. The process started fine this time. Earlier it ejected the CD and told me I need a blank one. Anyway, 47 seconds into the process it ejected the CD with the following error: "Unknown Error." [0x33000003]. So, what do I do from here? By the way, this time I tried to make it a "Read Only" instead of an appendable CD. :)
