Capturing Vhs Widescreen Material

rickenbacker

Question

I've got Roxio Creator 2009 SP4 and have already captured and converted several "normal" VHS videos using the Roxio software and the Roxio USB capure dongle.

I'm about to embark on capturing some VHS videos that are in widescreen format. If I do as I've done so far I will end up with a video in 4:3 format with lots of black on top and the bottom, but ideally I would like it to end up in 16:9 format with not quite so much black on top and the bottom. Any good ideas on how that might be possible, or, is it even possible?

The VHS tape was recorded in 4:3 and you should capture in 4:3. If you want to convert that to true widescreen, you will need to edit the file to a 16:9 Videowave project and add pan/zoom so it cuts off the black bars. Then output to 16:9 file or save to Videowave project and add that to MyDVD to burn.

Only drawback is that you are Enlarging the image and it wasn’t too good to start with. I find the degraded picture unacceptable and accept the blackbars over that.

The OP stated that the VHS was in widescreen format. Would that imply a 16:9 source? Maybe the same problem where the 16:9 flag of the source from analog capture is not honored at all?

I agree, but just offering another option.

Malatekid- no such thing on video tape. VHS is alway 4:3 and analog capture is always 4:3.
