Can't Install Content Until Emc 10 Is Installed

AnnNet

Question

I am getting this error after doing a clean install twice. I read the other thread (1 post) with the same name; downloaded the zip file and ran it. All it says is that this is a valid installation or something to that effect.

Now what?

I'm running Vista Home

Thanks for any help I can get on this = this is day 3 of trying to get this software to load. BTW, the first time I tried to load it, it seemed to load properly except that the desktop shortcut did absolutely nothing when I clicked on it. I could get to the individual componenets from the Programs tab, but that didnt seem like a good alternative, so I uninstalled it (I used control panel and the Windows uninstall program.

I can't sit there and watch folks doing the clean uninstall procedure.

If you say you followed it and it doesn't work, I'm out of suggestions...sorry.

Are you referring to the thread: Can't install Content until..... ?

I mentioned the 'fix' in THAT thread at the beginning of my post. If that's not the one you're referring to, which other one of those 'pinned' posts should I read?

Yes this....Are you saying if you follow it, it doesn't work?

"You must install Roxio Easy Media Creator 10 before installing the content" while installing Roxio Creator 2009

Issue

When trying to install Roxio Creator 2009, the installation encounters an error message "You must install Roxio Easy Media Creator 10 before installing the content" then installer rolls back.

Resolution

If you are using a downloaded installer, such a purchase from the Roxio eStore, please make sure you have installed the program installer file before installing the content file.

If you are installing from a disc from a physical copy of the software, or already installed the main program from the download but still encounter this error message, please download the patch below to resolve the issue.

2009ContentDiscError_HotFix.zip (36 kb)

Once the patch is downloaded, unzip it to your Desktop and double click on the 2009ContentDiscError_HotFix.exe file to apply it then try to reinstall Creator 2009 again.

Yes, that's what I'm saying. I try to install from the disc (purchased at Costco), it goes thru the motions for awhile, then gives me the error about installing EMC 10. The program (Creator 2009) never gets installed.

I downloaded the fix and ran it. I don't understand what kind of 'fix' it is when the program isn't even installed, but that's irrelevant.

In any case, when I run the fix I get a message about it being a valid installation so there's nothing to fix (of course, not worded quite like that  )

I'd really like to get this up and running. It's probably something simple like a regedit, but I havent a clue on where to start.

okay, here's what happens:

installation of disc goes along thru installing .net framework....then installing smart sound....

then I get the error message about being unable to install content until

EMC 10 is installed.

Once I click okay, the installation closes

I go to my desktop and run the fix for this error. It says: This application will remove corrupted Creator 2009 install registry key, do you want to continue. I click yes, then get this message:

This is a valid registration. There is no need to clean up ! (It comes complete with the exclamation point! ha! )

That might be why I had the idea that it might be somewhere in regedit....

any thoughts?

Did you follow directions before and use # 3 'download Microsoft Windows Installer Clean Up Utility to your desktop and install to remove Roxio and Sonic software' ??

Print out the Vista 'clean uninstall' follow it exactly, don't add or subtract form the instructions! http://kb.roxio.com/search.aspx?URL=/conte...7CR&PARAMS=

Your installation disc is one DVD disc, program and content?

After you do the dreaded 'clean uninstall', copy your C2009 installation disc to a folder on your hard drive, then try installing from there, double click setup .exe..

bah!

yes I did everything as you suggested and followed the instructions to the letter, including using Windows Clean up utility.

It is all on one install disc.

I'll try this all again, one more time tomorrow.

Thanks for your help - I appreciate you taking the time to help me sort it out.
