Problem Seeing Video Preview In Videowave

Dragonschild81

Question

I figured this would be an alright place to post this problem but I may be wrong. The issue I am having is that when I import video into Videowave to edit and then send to MyDVD I cannot see the video when I preview it in the little screen, I can hear the audio and the timer thing is moving along the timeline as it plays but I get no video, at first I thought that it was just Videowave but when I sent the project to MyDVD to do quick test from that preview option I got the same thing.

Now I just did a reformat of my computer last week and the program was working fine then, I am using the same video files now that I was using before the reformat I even tried some new files that I just recorded and they do the same thing. I have the most recent updates for my video card so it isn't that. The files themselves play right when I use windows media player(I get both audio and video). Does anyone here have a suggestion for me? Should I reinstall the whole Suite?

For information purposes I am using Roxio Easy Media Creator Suite 9, and my system specs are as follows:

Mobo: Asus A8N-E

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3000+ (1.8Ghz)

RAM: 3GB

GPU: BFG Nvidia 8600 GTS OC 256mb RAM 750Mhz

OS: Windows XP Home SP3

Video issues are almost always traced to DirectX and/or video card.

Update both and see what happens.

Thanks for the quick reply, I totally forgot about the directX update. I actually uninstalled the whole suite about 10 mins ago so after the update i will reinstall and see if there is any difference. Again thanks for the quick reply.

*Edit*

Ok I reinstalled the whole thing, updated DirectX and double checked the drivers for my video card, everything is up to date there and I still don't get and video playback from the preview.....any other suggestions?

Drag one of the files into gspot (link). It will tell you if you have the right codecs installed. Let us know what gspot says about both the video and audio codecs.

Have you checked the display settings and have the Windows font set at 96dpi?

I'm pretty sure that the windows font is 96dpi, I remember getting a quick glance at that when I was checking the settings. I have never heard of gspot, but I will check it out. At the moment I am on my laptop so when I get to my desktop I will do those things and get back to you.

Also kind of a side note, I was using Camtasia Studio to record and trim the video before converting to .WMV format and the files would preview fine in that program. This is what is really weird because wouldn't the lack of codecs prevent the video from showing in that program also, and that would mean that it wasn't the DirectX or Video card drivers either right?

I double checked the windows font, its set at 96dpi. Also I downloaded the gspot program and checked my video files. The information in the Video section is as follows:

Codec: WMV3

Name: WMP v9(VC-1 Simple/Main)

Status: Codec Status Undetermined

Len: 3:18:295

kbps:454

Also in the proposed codec solutions and tests section I had to use the MS A/V buttons and it rendered the video ok and I can play the video in the test window of gspot. I am using Gspot v2.70a.

I hope this was enough information for you, if not let me know.
