Roxio 2009 Does Not Finalize

Donald_D

Question

I have been burning discs with little success.

I created several DVDs using "CREATE DVD's - ADVANCED"

I add a menu and subs. The program seems to function properly with my HD MP4 files (1080 & 720), but the discs will not finalize. I am ONLY able to view the movies from the source computer and not any of my DVD players.

I burned a DVD using just a single AVCHD MP4 file, and still the discs cannot be read. All these files were created using Roxio Video Wave.

When I create a DVD using "DVD with menus", it does finalize but the output is marginal.

I am using a new Gateway running Vista.

Please explain. First you say the disc will not finalize and then you say it does. What you mean by 'marginal'? Video quality depends on the LENGTH of the video. On a single, 4.7GB blank DVD, you can only get one hour of best quality video using ANY software. The more video you add, the more the video must be compressed to make it fit. More compression = less quality.

Thanks for the reply.

By “marginal” I mean mediocre at best.

I create a standard DVD (Roxio’s MyDVD) using any of my video files and the DVD burn is successful. I am able to play the DVD on many stand-alone DVD players that I own.

However if I use the HD features (menu, video, etc) in the MyDVD program, it goes through the motions EXCEPT the disc is not finalized. This means the disc cannot be read by standard DVD players, etc.

I can run the DVD from the computer in which I burned the DVD, but no where else. The program encodes the movies and menus. But the disc is not prepared for universal playing at the end of the burn process.

I am currently trying slowing the record speed down. I’ve tried many HD formats, and nothing has worked. I can only get a basic resolution product at this moment.

All the raw footage is processed by Roxio’s Video Wave and saved in HD format.

Very frustrated!

And just to clarify, I have been trying to get a successful burn on various 100-200MB video files far less than the capacity.

Thanks.

You refer to making HD (Hidef?) projects. Are you talking about burning AVCHD projects in MyDVD? If that's the case, then of course they won't play on a standard DVD player. they aren't in SD DVD-video format. You would need a Blu-Ray player to play them. If this is not the case, please explain the settings as they are noted in the sofftware.

MyDVD btw always finalizes discs. There is no option not to. These aren't RW discs by chance, are they? Not all players will play them.

As pointed out, a regular DVD player can't play Hidef video. Not only that, the MyDVD option - "AVCHD on standard DVD" - is actually created and burned in the Bluray format and can only be played on a Bluray player or computer with Bluray software.

If you want teh Hidef media burned to 'standard definition' video DVD, then create a MyDVD project with menu as if you are using regular video. Add the hidef footage and MyDVD will down-convert it to SD before burning.

Thank you!

That is exactly what I was trying to do. The light bulb went on late last night. It wouldn't work anymore than trying to burn a Blue-Ray format and then trying to play it in a standard player.

Problem solved. Thanks again.

That is exactly what 'AVCHD on standard DVD' is - Bluray format.

If you should one of the first two options when you run MyDVD (DVD with menu or DVD no menu), then the Hidef files will be down-converted to SD and burned as regular video DVD.
