RoxioUser12345
I had trouble with the Drag-to-Disc feature (kept freezing on me.) so I decided to "uninstall and reinstall" to see if this would fix the problem, but can't reinstall the software now. I have tried pretty much everything, but no luck. When I double click on the installation disc itself (through my computer) it shows a blank disc...I can see that there is only one file called Track 1, which seems to be a music file? do not understand what's going on. I have an older version: Easy DVD Burning V6.2.1.130 which I bought several years ago Thanks for your Help!
Brendon
If your drive thinks the CD is a music disc, then it hasn't got a clean read on the disc. Clean your CD, then reload the disc and right-click on the drive's icon in My Computer. Select "Explore" and try to explore the disc. Can you see the setup.exe file now? RoxioUser12345
If your drive thinks the CD is a music disc, then it hasn't got a clean read on the disc. However, that did not work either. I have tried installing it into second computer and it did worked fine. There must be somethig wrong with the drive in the first computer. I may be asking too much, but since you are the expert...anything I should try to correct the problem? Thanks again!
Brendon
In your position I'd first "clean out" the system with the Roxizap uninstaller from here just to be on the safe side. Roxizap is normally for systems with ECDC 4 or 5 prior to installing Six, but it won't hurt to clean out some of the garbage left when you uninstalled and Roxizap should eliminate any remnants which are upsetting your CD drive. I've never heard of software making a drive see data discs as audio, but I'm covering all bases. -Try other data discs, to see if they're interpreted by the drive as audio. If they read fine, then your Roxio disc may have a scratch or scuff which is messing up the read at that vital point. Cleaning, or resurfacing it to remove the scratches might fix the problem, as long as the scratch is only on the clear side of the CD. -If you can [through repeated tries] get a read on the CD, I'd try to use Windows to copy the entire contents of the CD into a folder you make on your hard drive and install it from there [then write it to a fresh CD] However, if your CD drive is playing up on other discs, then you have a problem which will bite you when you go back to burning discs and you need to get the drive fixed - either cleaned, or replaced. -point to be aware of if the drive is getting old and needs to be replaced, Version 6 may not recognize a new 'super-duper' drive. The software is 5 years old, and you would stand a better chance for recognition of the drive by the software if you got a second-hand drive from back about that vintage. I'm sorry if this looks a little daunting, but this is a fact of life with computer ageing. Five years in computer terms can be near equivalent to a lifetime in human years. RoxioUser12345
Thanks for the help again...the Roxizap uninstaller worked fine. I was able to re-install the program then, but.... after I rebooted the computer, I got a blue screen with a message that said "Driver unloaded without cancelling pending operation" and a file name "cdr4_xp.sys" was at the bottom of the message. I did a research online, and came down that it was a Roxio file that was causing the problem. So I got some instructions from the Roxio community from member #523 on how to rename the "cdr4_xp.sys file and did exactly as written. I am now able to get the computer back to almost normal, but...my CD/VDV drives are now missing, and the installer window pups up asking me for the intallation disk....can't do that as the drive is nowhere to be found. It was recommended to go to the Roxio site and dowload and apply all updates. any idea where to fine these updates? thanks again!
Brendon
Hello again, Whoever said all this was "Easy" was working in the sales department! In real life it is rarely so! Microsoft uses a set of upperfilters and lowerfilters in the Windows Registry, and these entries are necessary for Windows to see your drive. Windows frequently has a 'hissy-fit' when you install or uninstall cd/dvd burning software, and breaks the filters. The solution to that is to follow the Microsoft proceedure HERE, but since deleting your upper and lower filters also deletes the Roxio filters, you have to REINSTALL THE ROXIO SOFTWARE after you do the Microsoft proceedure. The MS proceedure should get your drives back visible to Windows, and should be done regardless of whether or not you decide to continue trying with this version of Roxio software. Updates: 6.2.130 was the latest version 6 that was put out, so if your disc installs that, then you're as updated as you're ever going to get. If your disc installs a lower version number, there were updaters available which took you up to 6.2. HOWEVER I can't find them available for download anywhere on the Sonic/Roxio sites. Sonic has dropped everything earlier than EMC 8 off their software updates pages to save money. [they were published in September 2003, after all]. Unless you can find updaters available from some archival sites, you're going to be stiff out of luck for updates and might have to put up with an earlier version number. I trolled through a heap of sites on the Internet, but the only download links they had were back to Roxio and were no longer valid. Note: there were separate updaters available for Basic and Platinum, so if you find some updaters you'll need to get the one which matches the version that you have. 'Nother note: if everything goes swimmingly and you find a cache of updaters somewhere, I would suggest you abandon Drag-to-Disc anyway. It is considered reliable only for temporary storage since its discs are often unreliable and can't always be read on another machine. RoxioUser12345, I'm sorry if this post seems pessimistic but I'm presuming that you'd rather I said it as I see it instead of encouraging you with false hopes. The software is very old now [in computer years] and resources for it are few. The odds are stacked against you. I would suggest you do the MS proceedure to get your drives seen again in Windows. Then if a simple install from your CD doesn't do what you want, I'd suggest uninstalling version 6, cleaning the system out with Roxizap, and going after some more recent software. You don't need to buy the latest version if you don't need all the bells and whistles, but you should be able to get a pre-loved version of something between 6 and 11 [a.k.a.Creator 2009] on eBay or Amazon quite cheaply. Just avoid cut-down OEM versions [Dell and the like] since they're not worth any money you might pay for them. Whichever course you choose, I wish you the best of fortune.
