Video Capture Device Not Recognized By Software

quiltingflutist

Question

I purchased easy vhs to dvd about a month ago and tried to digitize a cassette tape. In the capture from box the device did not show up. I didn't try again until a couple days ago and it did show up. Great. Then I tried again yesterday and again it didn't show up so I have uninstalled and reinstalled a number of times with no success. I have also downloaded the driver mentioned in the knowledgebase. My device manager shows the video capture device is installed. I'm working with a laptop with windows xp. I've tried the device in every usb port I have. It's really puzzling to have had it work and now it doesn't! I don't know what I did wrong.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I know you'll find this hard to believe but I have read the MANUAL, obviously, since I was able to capture both audio cassettes as well as vhs tapes, the first time it was installed. When I reinstalled it, I DID plug in the video capture device FIRST before the installation. It really doesn't seem as though there is anything else you can screw up, according to the MANUAL.

So thanks anyway; if I got it right once, I should be able to do it again. I'll just keep plugging away myself.

Okay - here's a puzzle for you. The software recognizes the usb device for converting vhs tapes to dvd but not for digitizing audio cassettes. Why?

Because you didn’t do it right

Kidding – the SP2 update should fix that. See the pinned post at the top.

Unless you have an intermittent hardware issue computers simply don’t work in an On Again – Off Again manor.

You can only plug the device into a USB port htat has enough power to run it! I have a lap with 4 ports of which only one has any real power. The others will light the lights of some devices but can’t power them.

Read your manual…

Read cdanteek’s post at the top about installing and drivers. If you look at other posts here you can see there are tremendous number of people that can not follow simple instructions
