Media Import Failure

tmgowens@msn.com

Question

I captured 3 tapes and my computer crashed. Now when I try to capture more video, Media Importer won't detect any of my drives. The drives are fine and the data on them is readable yet Roxio won't see them. As a result, the viewer won't show and the software is pretty much hosed. I've uninstalled and done a clean install with the same results. Any ideas?

Media Importer does detect my video camera. However, under "status" this is what I get:

Status: Ready to capture

Time Elapsed: 00:00:00

File Size Created: 0.0 MB

Record Time Left: %02d:%02d:%02d

Space Left on Drive: 0.0 MB

Not enough information.

What camera are you trying to capture from? How are you trying to capture (Firewire, USB, disc,?). I know it worked in the past but we have to know in order to diagnose the problem.

Does Windows recognize your disc drives?

Is there anything on whatever you are trying to capture from -- it looks like a disc from what you posted. Is it?

I have a Panasonic PV-GS90P (miniDV) and I'm capturing with firewire. Windows does recognize the drives. What it boils down to now is that whatever is causing my computer to crash is just scrambing Roxio. I have to perform a system restore in order to get Roxio to work again. I'm not blaming Roxio for my problem with the computer shutting down, yet I consider myself lucky that I have a good restore point for Roxio to work again. It's surprising that even a clean uninstall and reinstall of Roxio doesn't help. It seems that beyond the instructions for the clean uninstall, Roxio must have some other hook into the registry I don't know about that prevents a reinstall from working.
