Creator 2009 Hang-ups

Smithy

Question

I just installed Creator 2009 and it has hang-ups. Only 1 really and that is right after I get to the first screen where you choose what you want to do. The computer lock up tighter than a drum and I have to do a hard restart most of the time. Sometimes it will just let me shut it down. I am running Vista enterprise on a 4600 dual core athalon processor with 2 gig of ram, 160gig h/d.

Here's the big problem...I am a computer dummy. I have been nosing around trying to find a solution but most of the talk is way above me. Is there a Creator for Dummies anywhere or can one of you computer guru's tell me where to start finding and fixing the problem. I will be eternally grateful....Smithy

Has anyone installed Vista SP2? I wonder if this will solve my problems. Thanks for all the tips and if anyone has any other ideas, please keep them coming.

I have one. If I can't get this resolved, I figure that my computer hates me and I will put it out of it's misery with my 12 ga shotgun :) It ,at least, would give me satisfaction.....Smithy

LOLLOL! Don't feel like you are alone. I had a problem today, but it was a hardware issue. My 20 month old, 24" Samsung, widescreen monitor, bit the dust, while I was doing AutoCad work, on it. It is under warranty, and Samsung even gave me a shipping label, for sending it to be repaired, but I want to put the rest of my computer, out of its misery, too.

When you are finished with your 12 ga, can I use it, too? :)

Bruce,

You are near many lakes so give it the "float test" and see if it passes.:lol::lol:

SP2 for VISTA may break Net 3.5 if it reinstalls the net 3.5 update on top of Roxio fix (sp4). I haven't tried SP2 yet but I will do so soon. You may have to do a clean install of Creator 2009 and then SP4. You could just try reinstalling SP4 first.

Yes, sp4 was applied successfully (at least that's what the computer told me). One other bit of information, if I don't do a hard restart, most of the other programs will open, but not run. Thanks for the suggestion. Smithy

My only other suggestion would be to do a clean install and reapply sp4.

Clean install instructions for Creator 2009 on Windows Vista

Do the reinstall in "safe mode" so that minimizes possible conflicts and interference from antivirus programs.

Well, I just spent 2 hrs. doing a clean install of Creator 09. I followed the directions to a "T". And guess what...the same problem. I can't take the program back, so, does anyone have a telephone number for technical support or any other suggestions. I'm at my wits end...

Did you install in the safe mode?

Update....I tried a clean install from safe mode in Vista enterprise. No sooner had it started to install when I got an "Error code 0641" when it was "Rolling back Microsoft Net v3.5" and the installation stopped. I Gooled the error message and found a program , RegCure, that was supposed to fix the error. I bought it, ran it, and got the same error when I tried another install in safe mode. I'm lost...can anyone help. Reinstalling Vista is not an option, unfortunately. Thanks for any help...Smithy

i certainly empathize with smithy. i did install properly, registered, installed SP4, started converting my CD collection, Creator worked for 1 day, now it hangs up, tried different CDs, several reboots. even a simple rip function seems beyond its capability. between yesterday and today nothing was changed in the computer, a recent HP w/Vista.

The bad news is that MS's Net v3.5 update breaks Roxio by removing stuff. SP4 is the fix. Some registry editors will break Roxio unless they are configured to ignore Roxio and Sonic entries. Do you have any other Roxio/Sonic software installed on the PC?

Creator started ripping again, after 4 reboots. still a mystery, i changed nothing between boots. Creator was only the second software install on this new machine (after Photoshop Elements). Next i will work on VHS video conversions. Many thanks for reply.

no other Roxio software on the computer. The install stops when it is rolling back Net v.3.4. Is there a workaround?

Update...Roxio support suggested I re-install MS Net v3.5 without the update to v3.5. I deleated v 3.5 and re-installed it without the update. I tried re-installing 2009 and it let me do the installation Great, I thought, my problems are solved. The installation included the 2009 update.

So I reboot. Feeling very confidant I click on the icon. You guessed it. The program hangs on the home screen and won't allow the computer to shut down. I have a support ticket going so I will see what they have to say. I wish I wasn't so stubborn about getting this installed. And I'm out of 12 ga ammunition. Some days nothing goes right :( Can anyone recommend a simple program to burn and copy dvd's and cd's till I get this sorted out?

:lol: I can't do that until I finish a project I am working on. It may float for awhile....aluminum case. I will calculate its buoyancy, before I throw it in the water. Will add rocks as necessary. :)

Are you back in Minnesota, now?
