No Audio When Capturing Video Via Usb

rkka93

Question

I'm trying to help a friend capture some video off her DVR using the USB Capture Device. She can capture the video, but there is no audio. The first time we tried, it did pick up audio, but it was coming from her integrated webcam microphone. After searching around, I went to the Options button in the Video Capture menu (selecting USB 2861 Device as our source). In the Audio options, it had the Device listed as 'Line (USB 2861 Device). The Input was listed as 'Microphone'.

When we installed the driver the first, time I did see one Fail message flash by. However, it said it had installed it successfully. Thinking something had gone wrong with the install of the driver, we've updated the software to Service Pack 4 and re-installed the driver, by using the Roxio Video Capture USB CD. I did not delete the driver before doing this. I'm not as familiar with Vista, so didn't want to break anything.

She still gets no audio although the video shows up. Under Options, the Audio settings show

Device: Line(USB 2861 Device)

Input: Master Volume

On my PC at home, I don't have any problems and the settings show

Device: USB 2861 Device

Input: Line

I'm guessing this is still a driver issue. Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks.

Also take a hard look at cdanteek’s description of a Vista install, .

It is for the Easy VHS to DVD program but the driver info is similar.

Note the V2D while similar to 2009 has the drivers built into the install program. Main thing I want you to look at are the Vista specific locations and names.

There is only ONE driver for the device and as far as 2009 goes you will want the SP4 update.

Well, we were able to get it working. After reading the Vista link, I decided to totally uninstall the driver and re-install just to be safe. With your help, I had confirmed we had the latest driver and it was being installed in the correct directories. With this done, it was still not working, but knowing I was matching everything you had provided I started to think it was something particular about the Dell XPS laptop that was causing issues. I went to their website and found an updated driver for its sound card. Once that was applied, it started working.

Thanks again for the help.

When capturing Video with the USB Device, the audio portion is in the USB signal - your sound card knows nothing about it.

Within Roxio Media Import, the setting that will work is under Options – Audio Input – USB 2861 Device!

(The only way you would use your PC’s audio card would be if you skipped the USB Device and ran the audio (red/white) into your PC’s sound card. And that assumes you have a sound card that would accept Input. Most will not through the red/white RCA connectors!)

Also browse through This and make absolutely sure your drives match up with what I have shown there!

Thank you. We definitely had USB 2861 Device selected as source for video and audio. However it wasn't defaulting to 'Line' as the audio input, but Master Volume. I will browse your link and make sure all the driver information is correct. She just bought it, so I would hope its up to date. Will let you know what I find.
