I'm About To Scream

Question

So, about 6 hours ago I dropped $60 on 'Easy' VHS to DVD. My computer had a hiccup during installation, and things got messed up. I downloaded a $30 registry repair program to try and fix it. That didn't work. I then researched on Roxio's 'support' forums, and followed the instructions for a clean install to a T, and still get a "you must install creator 2009 before installing content' error every time I try to install now. I tried to apply a patch they put out for this error, but of course that does not work either. This is the WORST experience I have had buying a piece of software from any company ever. If you are reading this before trying to decide to buy this program, DO NOT BUY IT!!!

Hi Grumps -

Sorry you're having an issue installing Easy VHS to DVD. A few questions and points for you:

1) If you had an install of Creator on your computer before Easy VHS, you'll need to remove it.

2) What is your OS? Clean install instructions are OS/and app specific in some cases.

3) Registry repair programs are a very bad idea for any software app and can possibly create the error you have. The only solution is to use the clean install instructions to resolve it as Registry cleaning apps sometimes aren't as thorough as they claim to be.

Get back to me with point 2 and I'll point you in the right direction.

Thanks,

Jon

1: No, I did not have any roxio product on my computer previously. The initial installation was messed up when I accidentally turned off my surge protector while moving my VCR next to my computer. I then tried to uninstall and start over again.

2: Vista 64 Home Premium (sp1, and all other updates current). I used the Creator 2009 clean install instructions multiple times to make sure I did not miss anything.

3: I used the registry repair program, until I dug deeper and found the clean install instructions.

Thanks for the help.

Oops, looks like I accidentally hit "submit" before I was able to type a repsonse.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, were these the instructions you followed:

http://kb.roxio.com/search.aspx?URL=/conte...S=set-locale=en

They are specifically for Vista. Also, I want to verify that you followed everyt step. It's not that i don't trust you, it's that in most cases when the Clean install instructions fail (they actually have a <90% success rate) it's usually because a step was accidentally missed.

Please check them over to be sure as Vista has some slight differences than XP.

If they are EXACTLY the same, then I have a couple more things I can possibly look into...but it is odd that you are getting a C2009 error when no instance of Creator was installed...

I had to go to class, and I will try again when I get home, but the only thing I think I may have missed would be double checking my anti-virus was turned off in msconfig. other than that, I went step by step for the clean install for vista at least six times this afternoon.

Could the drivers for the USB device be causing a problem in any way?

Thanks again.

Ugh, sorry to hear that.

Give it one more shot and let me know how it goes (fingers crossed).

The error you describe needs the Clean Install to be fixed, as Jon has pointed out. Print it out so you can mark off each step as you complete them.

Ive made nearly a dozen attempts at a clean install, following the instructions verbatim, and have the same 'Must install Creator 2009 before content' error.

Still something is missing???

The install looks to confirm that the V2D program is installed and it is not finding it! Hence the message and the part about EMC 10 is a typo…

Before you try the Clean Install this time, go into Add/Remove Programs and remove MS .NET 3.5.

Then copy the disc content to a folder on your HD and run the install part, when you get there, from your HD.

With a printout, do the Clean Install and monitor its’ progress closely when you start the install portion.

Not any part that seems to take a long time or a part that it seems to breeze through in a blink.

Of course make sure you have any AV program turned off before starting.

Try a restore to an earlier date removing all software this worked for me.

Not always the best idea. Restore Points are to protect the System and that is what they do.

They are not some blank check to undo all the evils we inflict and too many times a Format C:\ is the only real fix
