How to add pictures to a CD with pictures in it already?

Vladimir K.

Question

This is very frustrating issue! I have 4 programms and ALL are not able to add pictures to the existing ones without erasing it !! With my old computer and XP system I had no such problems. Now with a Vista it seems to be inpossible to solve it. Any help?

What do you mean? Are you using a R/W disc?

Use Creator Classic, and when you go to burn the photos, to the disc, uncheck the box to the left of Read Only. You have to click on the Burn Options button to see that box.

Hi Grandpabruce. Thanks fopr reply, but you have to go with me a bit slower please.

1. Of course I am using CD-RW.

2. The box you mentioning is unchecked, but still nothing is happening!

Please if you can provide step by step, click by click how to proceed, I'll be very grateful.

I am also grandpa, so in my head it does click a bit slower.

Looking forward to your help. If you can. :)

Nothing wrong with using the Help files instead of asking someone to type them over and over again :D

Hi Jim.

Thanks for well ment suggestion. Perhaps you overlook the fact that probably you work with XP system. I am talking about Vista ! What you have in your help I don't have!!

The help was the first thing I looked into. No luck there!

With XP it was a piece of cake to do it! NOT with the Vista!

I bought 4 different programms for adding pictures on a CD, just because I have this problem. ALL of them do the same! Only one them ( Honestech) answered my email and suggested to save what is on disc and rewrite it again! I am waiting for answer from Roxio.

Thanks anyway.

Look at the picture again.

Does Creator Classic look anything like Vista or XP?

Since you had EMC 10 thought we could show you how to use Classic…

What you are trying to do can be done on every computer that has Vista or XP without the use of any program!

Do have know someone who knows a little something about computers that could come over and help you?

No Jim, I don't have anybody, but usualy I can figure many things myself. Only it take me a little longer than the rest of the crowd.

Perhaps, if you can find the time and show me click by click how it can be done I would be very grateful.

One more things Jim. I just try what you suggested. It is same s.... what I am writing about - it ERASE the contend of the disc and recorded again. Every time it is done it decrease the quality of pictures!!!! So if I add every time 20-30 pictures, after 200-300 pictures on disc, the very first one will have a considerable lower quality!

That is what I am trying to avoid, and that is what CAN be done with XP. NO erase, just add. Period.

Am I missing something?

We try hard to please, Vladimir. I hope my clumsy attempt to make you feel at home didn't backfire too badly, my apologies if it did.

:)

Brendon

Dear Brendon, no apologies neccessary. Since I am here in a Canada for 41 years, I feel here quite at home. What I do appreciate most is your attempt to help me. So did few others.

Thats what is all about. And the most important part ? With help from this site I solved my problem. Aleluja. Thanks to all. Vladimir. :)

Hello myguggi. I have no idea what is EMC 10 or OEM, but FINALY, after fiddling with it for a while I DID IT! I did add pictures to the existing ones on a disc without erasing it and rerecorded.

Even on a disc which was cretaed by other programms and not by Roxio.

THANK YOU GENTLEMAN FOR A GREAT HELP! :)

I'm guessing the solution was to make sure you imported the previous session. Without that, it appears that all of the previous files have been erased, which they weren't, they just weren't linked into the new directory. And by the way, you don't need to use an erasable (RW) disc for this, you can use regular, more reliable, write-once discs this way.

Glad you got it going.

Jim etal are not talking about Vista, they are referring to the version of EMC 10 you have. If EMC 10 came with your computer it most likely is an OEM version which means if has some features crippled or missing.

Did you even try to create an appendable disc as Brendon has shown? I don't see anything about Erase in that picture.

Way back in the "old days" of Easy CD Creator, it was very obvious when you were closing a session and/or closing the disc. There were check boxes that said, "Close Session" and "Close Disc". Now it's not so obvious. The Session is always closed. Every time you write to the disc, you create a new session. To leave the disc open, you must uncheck the box that says "Read-Only disc". Obvious, isn't it?

A write-once (CD-R) disc can hold up to 99 sessions (theoretically). As I mentioned previously, when you go to add more files (pictures, in your case) to the disc, you need to make sure you import the previous session. That should happen automatically. If not, there is a button to do that. (Sorry, I don't have EMC here to show a screen shot.) Then add your new files, and write them making sure to uncheck the "Read-Only disc" check box.

And no, you're questions aren't funny at all, they're good questions which help point out some of the intricacies of writing CDs.

Hope that helps!

Dear Guru d_deweywright.

IT WORKED LIKE A CHARM! I just did try it. Worked perfect! I found the window to "import" pictures from previous sessions. It is next to ADD button. It is "LOAD DISC" button.

I thought that it goes only for RWs!

In these last few days I learned more on these pages, than to read 100 pages of a text book!!

Thank you for being patient with this old pfard. :):D;)

Don't use a R/W disc. Use a CD-R disc. They cost about $0.10 apiece, now, so if you create a coaster, just grab another one, off of the spindle.

If you dont see the same help section that Jim's picture shows then you dont have the FULL retail version of EMC 10 (it is the same in XP or Vista).

It sounds like you have a OEM version (it came with your computer). OEM versions dont come with the Creator Classic application which Jim is talking about and what his picture is showing (top left on the picture in post #5).

The OEM should still do what you are trying to do.

Have you tried using the built in burning capabilities built into Vista?.

Вы радушны. :)

Hello Brendon. No I am not a Russian. I came from Czech republic (used to be Czechoslovakia). Long time ago I understood a bit russian language, but it is a looong time ago. I am 73 years now. I know the first "Vy' -You, but the other word "ja nepanimaju".

As you can see I have to dig-out all the know-how from all possible sources and "it ain't easy" for my old brain, but so far I did it. Thanks for help.

Hi Vladimir,

Here's what I have in the Roxio Help Center in VISTA

post-208-1243565234.jpg

From the Home application, click on "Burn Data Disc - Advanced" That will load Creator Classic, if you have it.

Then click Help on the Creator Classic top toolbar

Clock on the "Creator Classic Help Center" option > Working with Data Discs > Adding data to an appendable disc and you should see what we see.

Thanks d_deweywright. I am using the CD-RW for pictures, because I do a lot of pictures (obviously I like photografy) and I don't want to end with a pile of CDs with a few pictures on each. However I am using the CD-R for my music, as I "mastered" how to transfer music from my old vinyl records on the disc.

Now I am getting ready to do the same with my VHS tapes a transfer them on a DVD. I just bought a new program, but didn't try yet.

I think most of the gurus do not recommend using RW discs for permanent or long term storage. By using session writing you can keep adding photos to a normal CD untils its full.

That would be one way to solve it. Unfortunately I would end up with a pile of discs used only 5% of their space on each!

Hi dear fellow Ontarians.

I found what Jim suggested. I have a full version of Vista Home Premium 64 bits. Yes it came with a computer. That is not a point I am trying to make - I dont want to ERASE what is on disc and RERECORDED again!

I just want to add to the existing pictures on a disc. Something, what could be done with ease on XP system.

I don't know what you mean by " burning capabilities" of Vista?

Hi Brendon.

Yes I found it, but it is not the answer I am looking for. I don't want to erase and rerecord again in order to add pictures. Every time it is done the quality of a first pictures suffer!

My solution ? I let in a store fixed my old computer with XP system ( now I have 2 computers) and it does it the "old" way". No erase!!

Thanks for help. Vladimir.

Thanks Walt, I guess I didn't really finish my thought about not using RW discs for permanent, long term storage.

Vladimer, erasable discs have let some people down when they found that after some amount of time they could no longer read their precious data off the disc. That's why I suggested using write-once discs. You don't wind up with a bunch of discs with only a little on them, as long as you don't close the disc, just the session, you can keep adding, as Walt (myguggi) said, until the disc is full. If you insist on using RW discs, then I would recommend that once you get a full disc of pictures, then you make another copy to a write-once disc.

Good luck!

Thanks, this is an excellent advise. I had no idea that there is a different in a long term quality between R and RW ?! I would love to use R, but I was under impression that I can use it only once. I don't know about "session"? How is it done? How to close just session and not closing the disc?

Please bear with me, as it may look funny to you Gurus, but it means a lot to me, as I have to find everything the hard way.
