More installation issues

Nadine H

Question

I've been reading all the posts about difficulties with installation of Creator 2009.

I actually had it running, but is was unstable, so I decided I had to do a clean install.

I followed the procedures for clean install.

Then I had to make an emergency trip out of town for 3 weeks. When I came back, I double checked that I had completed all the procedures for uninstalling before re-installing.

Now, I haven't been able to get the program to re-install. I get the error message about .NET 3.5 not completing. So I attempted to uninstall that and try again. I completely unstalled my AV software. Creator 2009 install does not produce any errors other than the .NET 3.5. But very little actually gets copied to the program files/Roxio folder. No icons or start menu items appear. I don't have the dsetup.dll file in my system32 directory.

I'm dumbfounded.

What else can I do?

Well, I won't go into my opinion of tech support at this time. That would best be done on a forum dedicated to such issues.

I am delighted to report that I am back in busness. I was finally able to re-install Creator 2009 in all its glory. I thought it would be a good idea to give back to this forum by explaining what the issue IS with installing Creator 2009.

It appears that the issue is with Microsft Framework .NET 3.5 SP1. BEFORE you attempt to install Creator 2009 make sure that you have Framework .Net 3.5 WITHOUT SP1. Now, it is a little difficult to find it at the MS website, but you can. Most of the time when you download 3.5, you'll actually get 3.5 SP1, so be careful.

It has taken me 4 days to figure this out. At one point I lost my keyboard and mouse (that's fun). I did a repair on the OS only to find that IE was then broken so that I couldn't get on the internet to update Windows. Threw in the towel and decided that maybe there was more broken in Windows that I could see at this point and did a complete new install of the OS. Then I played a few more games before I was able to get Windows to recognize my NIC. And then I embarked on updating Windows one update at a time. Only after that, there was only Framework .NET 1.1. Creator 2009 would not install yet. So I updated first to Framework .NET 3.0 (which apparently also gave me 2.0 and both with service packs), and then to 3.5 without SP1. Creator 2009 is now successfully re-installed.

Perserverance pays off.

Now the question is, do I even want to install Framework .NET 3.5 SP1? I have had to re-install Creator 2009 several times since February. I've done the clean install at least a dozen times. I wish that I could understand why the program is so unstable.

Thanks to the gurus at this forum. I hope that my experiences are helpful to others as well.

Not a guru but I had very similar problems. I cannot understand why Roxio scannot simply tell buyers to install .Net framework files including SP1 for 3.5 - from Microsoft first. It is needed by some other programmes - I have a Media Centre Edition, for example. Then Roxio could simplify their software. At least give an installation option for those who already have .NET framework files up to date. I am fed up with the clean reinstall procedure, and agree Roxio tech support is hopeless. (Compared with MS, Adobe, Happuage, etc)

I'm sure Roxio is aware of this problem and just the fact that they're now on SP4 shows they are still trying to improve a good program. It is a problem that appears only a small number of users face but since this is the place for help, it's the place where it's mentioned most.

I'm hoping that this Microsoft NET Frame 3.1 SP1 is my problem. I have reinstalled my operating system twice since at least I know the second time Roxio Creator 2009 caused the blue/purple screen of OS death. Since after this install I was able to determine Roxio was not fully installing properly so I couldn't install SP4 even though it said it was all installed. I'm going to check into this SP1 issue. Thanks for the info!

Yes, yes, I did.

But I received a message that said that I am running the lastest verions of Creator 2009. There are no programs files loaded. I am NOT running Creator 2009, because the program does not load.

No icons.

No start menu items.

NOTHING!!!

Read this article: http://kb.roxio.com/search.aspx?URL=/conte...14CR&PARAMS=

Then I would try booting in "safe mode" and do the clean install followed by SP4. Don't skip any steps.

I have no dsetup.dll file in my system32 directory.

I haven't skipped any steps. I've followed the clean install procedures at least a dozen times.

Tech support directed me to resolve the issue with Framework .NET 3.5 setup error. I could not uninstall 3.5 SP! and I couldn't install it. Took it out with the clean up tool. Finally got 3.5 without SP1 installed. Attempted the re-install of Creator 2009. No change in the results, except for there was no setup error with Framework 3.5 (I installed it before Creator 2009).

I'm still left with no icons, no start menu items, Smatsound seems to load okay. The Roxio Creator 2009 folder has only 2 folders in it: Photosuite 11 and VideoUI 11, each of which have only one folder: "Content." I did NOT install the second file: . . . EMC11_Content7_Lang.exe.

I don't understand what the benefit of trying to install Creator 2009 in safe mode would be.

Does anybody really know what to do to solve this issue?

No – we are just users like yourself…

Your best bet would be to CALL tech support and work one on one with a live person.
