Creating a DVD from avi files

James220

Question

I have 2 avi video files (each one is 30 minutes), I can play both of them with no problems (using windows media player), when I want to create a DVD (using roxio) i click on (Add new movie...) then I can add the second file with no problem but when i add the first one i get this error message (One or more of the files you have selected are unsupported. You may need to install an additional software to support playback of these files).

I have avi codec installed because I can play both files fine with windows media player

any suggestions?

thank you

James,

When you go to import the first AVI, does it have a thumbnail icon over the file, or a red circle with an oblique bar across it?

If it's the latter, then the AVI has been encoded with a codec which you don't have installed for general use [despite Windows Media Player playing it]. In that case you should examine the AVI with the GSpot Information appliance to see which codec it uses, and then install that missing codec.

What program are you using to "add New Movie" ?? You might want to try opening the C2009 "Videowave" program, adding your avi videos there, do any editing, adding other photos files etc, then save that file with a name of your choice (will save as a dmsm" file) . Then open "MyDVD" program and import (add new video) the saved dmsm file and do any other editing that are options in MyDVD and burn your DVD.

I just tried Roxio VideoWave, when I try to import the 2 videos, the 2nd avi file works fine but the first one is still not working, I am getting a different message with VideoWave "The file(s) you selected contain missing or invalid video streams, and have not been added."

again: I can play both files fine with Windows Media Player..

It would appear that something is corrupt in that one .avi file. Player apps can be more tolerant of video file errors at times, while editing apps are not. That's why some may play ok, but are corrupt to the point they can't be edited.

You'll need to get a new un-corrupt copy of that file in order to use it.

Using Windows Movie Maker can you import the problem file?
